Box 205 * Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014 • (815) 459-2641 By Estelle Atwell June is 'busting out all over' and a fitting month for Helping Paws to announce its move to larger ground level headquarters at 465 West Virginia street, Crystal Lake, accessible to the public, with highly visible exposure. Hidden away in a tiny office for almost all of its existence, HP was restrained by the physical limitations of the space to mostly telephone contact with the public. Now it's an open door policy and the public is invited to drop in any time. The hours are 10 to 4 Monday through Saturday, and Thursday evenings 6 to 8. Phones are the same -- office, 815-459-2641; emergency calls evenings 312-658-7221. There is a "no no" that has to be mentioned. Only human visitors are allowed at this office complex. HP operates on a foster home availability basis only at the present time and dumping is subject to court action and a $500 fine. A professional library of pet books, growing daily as con tributors bring in more, fills the shelves, and the back room of the headquarters is a good place to relax and enjoy refreshments as you research your pet problem. The space will also serve as a club room for volunteers, a place for board meetings, and the launching pad for field trips and nature outings organized for HP's Junior auxiliary Safari club. Displayed on the windows where the passing world may view them are photos of the pets available for adoption. This added exposure should increase their chances for adoption. In addition, as a community service, photos of lost and found pets are posted. As fund raisers, a selective display of gifts and cards are o f f e r e d . I m m e d i a t e registration for ID tags which can be picked up directly is part of the service, along with pertinent extras that enhance the value of having an HP ID tag. June has , been designated "Adopt-a-Cat month" by the American Humane association. In conjunction with this, special Adopt-a-Cat packets will be given away. These packets include coupons for cat food; a story illustrated by color pictures about his royal highness, Morris, king of all the shelter strays; a cat care book; NAME ADDRESS CITY SUBSCRIBE To The McHenry Plaindealer And Save *8.80 Over Newstand Price FILL OUT AND MAIL OR BRING TO: McHENRY PLAINDEALER 3812 W. Anone who adopts a cat from any agency during June is eligible for a packet, and those adop ting a cat through HP will have a packet set aside for them. A special Shelter Building fund (that's the next big move for HP), has been set up at the First Federal Bank of Crystal Lake, and lots of little cash dribbles can add up to a large deposit in time, drawing in terest to help. So if you have any spare cash, step up to the teller, and tell her you want to help that Helping Paws building fund grow. To those of you who expected to see us last Saturday for tag day funding, as luck would have it, the Crystal Lake Police department issued another permit after ours for the same day to another group. Naturally we felt the public should not be solicited twice on the same day and therefore we were forced to postpone until June 10. We hope to see you all then.
