Under the "What's Hap pening" column a number of birdies were shot and perhaps a record number of chip-ins were executed. Floss O'Connell took birds on no. 6 and no. 14, Marty Jemiola birdied no. 9, Joan Buss birdied no. 16 and Marge Blomquist birdied no. 12. Floss got the one on no. 6 by sinking her approach. Nell Fidler sank her approach on no. 12, Jean Remke did likewise on no. 17; Kitty Ballstaedt sank her approach on no. 3 for a par, Phyllis Byrd sank an approach on no. 7. Irene Kinnemann really had a humdinger of an approach on no. 12 as she lofted the ball over the sand trap on to the green and into the cup. Lady of the week award for sinking approaches has to go to Rita Sayler who dropped in three - on no. 4, no. 9 and no. 18. No wonder she had low putts in her class! Nice going, Rita. Millie Leisten would like to say that she had a hole in one; however, it didn't quite turn out that way when her drive hit the flagstick on no. 18. The ball refused to drop directly into the cup and took a slight lateral. Better luck next time, Mil. Evie Guntner had a toughy on no. 10. She put her shot across the creek only to have it hit one of the willows and bounce back ward into the water. The situation was different for Gloria Spiess in crossing the same body of water on the 8th. Her ball was headed into the creek but struck a rock and bounded forward. Hautzinger has not lost since its first game against Johnsburg and is now 5 and 1 and in second place - Coppermine scored twice in the top of the first, thanks in part to dropped flyballs by Hautzinger outfielders Don Prazak and Paul Morenz. Hautzinger scored four in their half of the first, with a 3- run homerun by Jerry Brodin following a triple by Morenz and singles by Prazak and Vern Peterson. Tim Whitman homered in the second for Coppermine to close game. A couple of up and coming cuties dropping in some pars were Sue Jackson on no. 12 and no.l 4, and Kitty B. on no. 3 and no. 14. Notes from the Nifty Niners report that Dorothy Hollander came in first place for their Selective Five event followed by their leader, Lorraine Young, in second place. Ethel Hartmann had low putts of 15 in the same event. A nice chip-in on no. 12 was made by Bea Pond. And, Dorothy Hollander was reported as having played pool with one of her long irons as she helped Dot Flynn ex tricate a tightly wedged ball from a bush on no.5. Nothing recorded on film. Ernie wants to stir up in terest for some Old Timer baseball games, players to be 39 years old and older. Games would be between Waukegan, McHenry and Johnsburg. Since dates would have to be arranged right now for use of diamonds, there can be no further delay. If some former Johnsburg or McHenry players will take over getting teams together, please contact me -- real soon. I will put you in touch with Ernie. One time we mentioned to a Chicagoan that we wouldn't want to live in this city. J "Why?" Because so many people are killed in there. "Yes", said the man. "but think of all the people who are never killed. That was consoling The way our weather changes from day to day a fellow can't put away his winter garments. Am still on the edge of my chair after listening to the White Sox scratch out a 1-0 win over the Cleveland Indians. Now they announce that the Cubs beat Cincinnati 3-2 with newly acquired Ken Holtzman getting the save. That should make everybody happy It wouldn't be too suprising to see Holtzman give the Cubs a big lift. Nobody had wanted him, but he has the arm and the experience! Pitching is still the name of the game. It becomes more and more noticeable when teams go down the stretch along about September. The pro shop was in tune as we sang Happy Birthday to John on his 25th. The second week of team play made a lot of changes in the standings. July 2 and also for the July 4th special event. A question as to whether or not the Huntley High basketball team didn't travel to Cham paign to play in the state tournament along about 1949 sent me to the book "March Madness'. Sorry. Huntley is not listed in '49 or any other year. Old Timers have seen the game of basketball change tremendously over the years since the center jump was the rule after every basket. Back in 1929 Canton beat West Aurora 18 to 9 in the championship game. They passed the ball a lot, shot with both hands (un derhanded) and one man shot all the free throws. Maybe because the sun shone so brightly on Tuesday the 13th was the reason so many nice reports came from a number of the ladies at McHenry Country Club. It was the annual "beat the champ" day and Judy Smithson made it easy on lots of the gals by netting an 82. Those who bested her net score were Lou Roels, Irene Kin nemann, Mabel Smith, Letty Busscher, Carol Cooney, Laverne Harpling, Dee Overton, Betty Phelan, Nancy Wilkins, Mary Mutchinsky, Marge Blomquist, Sue Martin, Linda Puccio, Joan Schloskey, Toots Gerstad, Linda Watson, Pat MacDonald, Sue Jackson, Ethel Koehler, Maddy Holmes, Kitty Ballstaedt and Floss O'Connell. In Class A Floss O'Connell had low net of 72 and low putts of 29. In Class B Irene Kin nemann tied things up by having low net of 73 and low putts of 31. A four-way tie in Class C found Betty Smith, Gloria Spiess, Elda Eckland and Ethel Koehler all netting 76; while Joan Schloskey and Maddie Holmes tied for low putts with 30 each. Linda Watson and Sue Jackson each The White Sox had four 20 - game winners way back in 1920 and still finished second. Guess the rest of the staff didn't contribute much DIVOT D0LL$
