I have heard that the Lt. Governor is reorganizing his Senior Advisory council. Is this true? A Yes. The non-partisan council, which was created in September of 1977, has been renamed the Senior Citizens legislative forum and a set of formal by-laws have been adopted. The name of the council was changed to better illustrate the responsibilities of the organization Currently a series of thirteen organizational meetings are being held throughout the state with representatives from senior citizen groups that have been contacted by the Lt Governor's office Senior c i t i z e n o r g a n i z a t i o n s throughout the state will be represented Q What are the reasons for reorganization? A The primary purpose is to obtain increased local input on the needs of the elderly from seniors themselves There presently exists no direct channel of regular com munication for the concerned senior With regularly scheduled meetings in cach region of the state, the result should be frequent and up-to- date reports from each regional governor The concerns of the senior citizens will be heard in both the executive and legislative branches of state government. The forum is a sounding board for seniors across the state and will con tinue to act not only in the capacity of a trouble shooter, defining problems of senior citizens at their on-set, but alsA in a creative and innovative fashion formulating new methods of approaching senior problems. Q What is the formal structure of the forum under the new by-laws? A Only those senior citizen organizations with a bonafide active membership of twenty- five individuals or more will be a l l o w e d t o a p p o i n t a representative to serve on a forum committee. Ex-officio members, such as the local directors of legal aid societies, Title VII project directors (nutrition site directors), local housing authority boards, Community Action agency directors and County Councils on Aging members, are invited to participate on forum com mittees, but, do not have any official voting privileges The Lt Governor serves as chairman of the forum There will be thirteen clccted regional governors serving as coordinators in each of the thirteen designated areas as outlined by the regional boundaries of the Illinois Area Agencies on Aging Serving under the direction of a regional governor will be six standing committee chairmen who will chair the following committees: Income Main? tenance. Health and Nutrition, Housing, Transportation. Social Services, and Con sumerism. Standing committee chairmen will be elected by the at-iarge regional forum membership. An annual meeting of the regional governors and stan ding committee chairmen will be called by the Lt Governor The regional governor will call a minimum of one annual regional meeting of all forum members to discuss regional policy and priorities % Write or call us at Lieutenpnt Governor Dave O'Neal Senior Action centers at 160 NaHh La Salle. Most of us have been h e r e s e v e r a l years. When a new girl is added, it usually, takes only a short time for her to adjust to the work load and the people Last month a darling joined us. I tried to be friendly She just didn't seem interested in making new friends, so I left her alone Some of us have noted that this girl takes from others ..pens, pencils, note pads, desk equip ment. I saw her walk out of the office with a plant taken from the desk next to hers The next day, I asked her about it and she said she knew nothing about it. "Hie girl has problems, but I don't know how to help her We don't mind her borrowing, but if her behavior is indicative of things to come, her next move is to take money I'd like to end everything before it gets started Worried Secretary Dear Worried: If she doesn't remember "borrowing" someone's plant, she needs help Be patient. Try to be her friend If you can't reach her, find an understanding bo*< who will She may be in need of professional help (I t you wouif l l ike Colleen S Corrtrr.pnts on your part icular si tuation o» problem write COLLEEN Bo« 639 Franktort Ky 40602 ) JEWEL CATALOG OUTLET STORE • JEWEL CATALOG dUTLET STORE • JEWEL CATALOG OUTLET S : A DIVISON OF JEWEL DIRECT MARKETING JIWBL \ 301 W.
