Mrs. Legge learned to drive many years ago and quit at the time of her ninety-third bir­ thday only because "I didn't want to put myself through the nervous strain of wondering if I would pass the test Until a year ago, she made craft items for church bazaars in Broadview and for farmers' markets in Sycamore. Although Mrs. Legge has only a few nieces and nephews, she is surrounded by many friends. The thirty-third anniversary gathering of the family of the late John A. Anderson brought eighty-six persons to the Barrington city park last Sunday. They included the eight sons and three daughters of Mr. Anderson. Oldest to attend was his sister, Hulga Anderson, 92, of Indiana, and the youngest was the 4-month-old granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn An­ derson of Palatine and Mr. and Mrs. Michael McDonagh of McHenry.. Also present was Mrs. Eva Anderson of McHenry, step­ mother of the eleven Anderson children. The children, all present, were Carl of Barrington, Walter &£/McHenry, Anna Traub of Elgin, Albin of Grand Junction, Colo., Arnold of McHenry, Teddy of Gages Lake, Evelyn Henke of Woodstock, Marian Reinlie of Deland, Fla., Glenn of Palatine, Clarence of Ontario, Ore., and Harry of Springfield, Mass Their father operated the popular Broadway Barbecue on the corner of Elm and Front streets for many years. Seniors Hold Annual Picnic The McHenry County Senior Citizens council will hold its fourth annual picnic Saturday, Aug. 19, at Woodstock city park, starting at noon. Everyone is asked to bring s dish to pass, a service for eating and a hearty appetite. The council will provide the beverages . and live en­ tertainment. The Golden Twirlers from McHenry will entertain the group with an exhibition of square dancing and "Eddie and Ralph" will provide music for dancing and singing under the pavilion in the park; Further information is available through the council office located at 113 Newell street, Woodstock or by calling the council's toll free number 1- 800-892-6120 McHenry Girl Wins Superior Rating At Illinois Fair Lee Tomlinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tomlinson, McHenry, received an A rating and was chosen Superior in the stitchery competition with her Needlepoint exhibit at the Illinois State fair Sunday, Aug. 13. Lee was among more than 10,000 youths participating in the Junior department com­ petition. Her needlepoint exhibit measured 20" x 40" and depicted Bethlehem. The variation in color and variety of stitches chcsen created texture and depth. Her exhibit is a wall hanging, backed with velvet and finished at the bottom with brass bells. Lee used twenty - two different patterns and two sizes of canvas to create her exhibit All 4-H members, other than livestock exhibitors, from McHenry county exhibited their projects on the same day. This arrangement allows the public a variety of exhibits to view each day. State fair Junior department competition provides 4-H and FFA members and opportunity to see the projects and efforts of other members. Members learn from this experience as the judges speak directly with each exhibitor. The creator of each work is questioned about techniques selected and suggestions and comments are made openly to those viewing. The fair provides a place for young people to show the public what they are learning and St. Paul's Episcopal church honored mothers at its 10 a.m. Mass Sunday. A grandmother, a mother, and a daughter from one family, Susan Brodie, Marge Hess, and Lisa Hess, presented bouquets before the offertory to Father Arthur McKay to be placed at the shrine of the Blessed Mother.
