Today, South Haven is a popular summer vacation area noted for its coho and chinook salmon fishing Wonder Lake Man Investment Officer Recycling Program The Ill inois Commerce commission and Com­ monwealth Edison company have announced the beginning of an optional Time-of-Day rate experiment During the month of August, a random sample of 12,000 Edison residential customers is receiving letters offering them the opportunity to reduce their electric bills by participating in the experiment "Just as the phone company offers lower rates for long distance calls made during less busy evening and weekend hours, customers in this experiment will pay less for electricity used during low demand periods of the day," according to ICC Chairman Charles Kocoras For the experiment, a special meter is installed to record not only the amount of electricity used, but 'also when it is used Customers then will be charged a higher rate for electricity consumed during the daytime peak demand hours The charge will be substantially lower at night and on weekends If the customer can shift part of his electricity usage from peak to off peak periods, costs will be reduced sub stantially over the course of a full year Kocoras added Six different t ime-of day rates are being tested in the experiment and each will be offered to about 2,000 customers The rates vary in two ways: the hours of each day included in the peak period and the difference between peak and off peak period charges Commonwealth Edison customers now pay about 4 2 cents per kilowatthour for electricity any time it is used In the experiment, the rates are approximately 1.4-3 cents per kwh used off-peak and 6 5 - 10 cents per kwh used on-peak in the summer The winter on- peak charges are slightly less than in the summer As usual, a fuel adjustment charge will continue to be added to all bills The Lake Shore National bank, 605 North Michigan avenue.
