Now he could go to school. He leaned back on the bed in his dark, quiet room and sleep gathered him up - soon he would be ready for tomorrow's zreat adventure. Quiet breathing, peaceful sleep - during the last generation children all over the world have been sleeping quietly and waking to the luxury of health and i^appy activity because of carefully carried out immunization programs. The Big 7 childhood diseases - d i p h t h e r i a , p e r t u s s i s (whooping cough), polio, measles, mumps and rubella - gradually became rare as these vaccines were administered to children before they began attending school, before they were exposed to the various viruses The Big 7 became so rare that people began to think they had been completely routed - that since nobody got the diseases, they weren't around to be caught Parents forgot to be cautious - they neglected to immunize their children and the Big 7 began to appear again Diseases that could be completely prevented were once again affecting children's lives. Schools took steps and the states passed codes naming immunization against the Big 7 as an entrance requirement Health stepped up the organization of programs to immunize children and issued warnings to parents about the danger of being forgetful Parents can safeguard their children from the age of two months by making sure they are immunized properly. Contact the family doctor or bring your child to one of the immunization clinics offered by the McHenry County Health department Clinics will be offered each month by the Health department on the last Wednesday - from 8:30 - 11 a m in Room 102 in the McHenry county courthouse. 2200 N Seminary avenue <Rt 47 north) Woodstock.
