I was divorced because I felt I'd missed something in being married at such a young age. I know eventually I want to settle down again with a man I can love and trust. Right now I feel I can't love one man that much. Tell me-how do I shake this fear about falling in love? When will I know that when I fall in love I won't want a different man? I have a lot of love to give but this fear may destroy my chances for a long, menaingful relationship. A. Any fear can produce abnormal results in a person's life. Therefore it would seem advisable fonyou to work on eliminating fear of any kind. Learn to live a fear-free life. Practice being happy, wholesome, outgoing. Get your thoughts off yourself; then you will be conditioned to meet a man whom you can love and trust and who will love and trust you. We have a booklet, Overcoming Anxiety and Fear, that may help you, and a copy of it is on its way to you. Anyone wishing a free copy may write to us at Box 500, Pawling, NY 12564. Doesn't Need or Want Closeness Q Two days after our divorce my husband and 1 got together again. The other woman had jilted him. The first few months home he was so sweet and loving and then he got to where he didn't want any closeness, sex or otherwise. He doesn't need it or want it. Then he stopped going out. Says his partying days are over. I still enjoy these things, and if I want to go he says, "go ahead". What do you think is wrong? A. The problem could be either with you or with your husband or with both of you. You ought to give that fact some very serious thought. Could be your husband is a natural-bom baby who never matured. Maybe he just wants you to be a loving mama who will let him have what he wants when he wants it. Some men subconsciously marry a mother figure rather than a wife. Mrs. Peale wrote a book called The Adventure of Being a Wife in which she has a chapter titled "Study Your Man". Perhaps your local library would have a copy. Many women tell me this book helps them improve their marriages. Spreads Gloom Q. My daughter says she has nothing to be happy about, and I just don't understand. She attempted suicide five years ago and almost succeeded. She's divorced and seems to think a happy marriage would solve all her problems. She is so negative and depressed that people try to stay away from her. I know how they feel. It makes me feel depressed to be around her. How can I help her? A. Sounds like your daughter is pretty mixed up, and we suggest you try to get her to have counseling from a local pastor or perhaps a psychiatrist. It could be possible that she is suffering from abnormal depression, and in that case she needs specialized treatment. A happy marriage is not at all likely in her present condition. She can never find happiness until her attitude changes. If there is something you would like to ask Dr. and Mrs. Peale to BIRTHS 1 BIRTHS Welcome Second Son Mr. and Mrs. John W. Ellicson, 2003 N.
