New Officers Open BPW Season The McHenry Business and Professional Women's club held its first fall meeting Monday night, Sept 18, at Barney's Snug Harbor Boat club.^ Taking office were Virginia Orr, president; Adeline Pederson, president elect; Lee Stangerone, vice president; Dorothy Haddick, secretary; Joan Larkin, corresponding secretary; Marge Cooper and Virginia Mroz, treasurer. To start the new year off along with forty-five B.P.W members was an informative speaker, Ruth Dyre, nurse at the Pioneer center, "Birth to Three Program Ms. Dyre attended the University of Wisconsin and has been with the Birth to Three program for 4'j years. The program is designed for children under 3 years of age with special problems such as speech defects, physical handicaps, hearing difficulties, blindess, emotional problems, etc. This no-charge service funded by the state and county Mental Health is offered to those who feel their children have these special problems Slides were shown on how the staff teaches and develops skills to help children do the basic skills of normal children. Parents are encouraged to attend and learn how to help the child at home. The registration is now up to sixty children. A donation of $50 was given by the B P W. members to buy much needed supplies for the program After the speaker, the meeting was called to order and roll was taken. Four guests were introduced by the meeting chairman, Leota Freund, and her committee June Adams, Jerry Hamil, Marilyn Salo, Sheila Jensen, Dorothy Adams, Grace Reinhardt and Neida Richesky. Virginia ^ Orr, president, announced the District VI fall meeting to be held at the Ab­ bey, Williams Bay, Sunday, Oct. 15. members were asked to sign up to attend. Then Ilavern Gregory, chairman of the Foundation committee, reported the success of the club sponsored "I Quit Smoking" clinic. Forty-seven people were in attendance and eighteen quit smoking. Lynn Donarski reported on National Business Women's week which will be celebrated Oct. 15 - 21, closing with the Illinois Federation Legislative conference in Springfield Oct. 20-21. There will be a caravan from the Holiday Inn to the state capitol to meet the governor. The National B.P.W first vice-president, Juli Arri, will ride in the first cars with the state officers, followed by the B.P.W club of the year, Mount Vernon, and then others following. Lynn Donarski asked members to sign up and par­ ticipate in this exciting event. It was also voted to donate mittens for the Head Start program for Christmas this year. Members were asked to bring a pair to the November meeting. DAR Chapter Opens Season The first meeting of the fall for Kishwaukee Trail chapter; Daughters of the American Revolution, will be held at the home of Misses Alice and Leta Clark, 8815 Rt. 120 at Thompson corners, at 11:00 a m Monday, Sept 25. Miss Amy Brink will give the program at 1:30 p.m. following the lunch hour on the topic, "Constitution Today and the Future" as a reminder of the country's anniversary of nearly 200 years ago National Constitution week is Sept. 17-23. The chapter had the privilege to present an American flag to the new Johnsburg high school Monday, Sept. 11. Mr. Hayes he principal and three students of the student body were presented the flag to fly on its flag pole, by Mrs. Lisle Bassett, regent. The members of Kishwaukee Trail chapter, who attended the fall DAR days at Glenn Ellyn Friday, Sept 15, were Mrs. Lisle Bassett of McHenry, regent; Mrs Richard Gard­ ner. first vice-regent, Mrs. Mavnard Howell, secretary; Miss Leta Clark treasurer; and Miss Amy Brink and Mrs. Olive Nolan, Miss Alice Clark, committee chairmen, all of Woodstock.
