Plan Balloon Launch Charles Christensen, who is in charge of the balloon launching Sept. 24, gives instructions to the Sunday school members who are to receive helium filled balloons on this very special day. The Alliance church Sunday school gathered in the sanc tuary of the church for a time of •briefing' for the start of their contest which is to run from Sept. 24, to Nov. 25. Charles Christensen, who is in charge of the balloon laun ching Sept. 24, gave in structions to the Sunday school members who are each to receive a heliumTilled balloon, given a post card on which they will print their names, tie the cards to the balloon, arid at a given time, all will march out into the church grounds, start a countdown, after Rev. Robertson gives a short in spirational talk, and then all launch together. The postcards have in structions to those who find the balloons when they land. They are to mail them back to the church. If their balloon comes from the farthest distance they will receive a fine study Bible, and also, the pupil whose name is on the card will also receive the same Bible. Prizes win also be awarded during the contest as pupils within four departmental categories bring new pupils with them to Sunday school each week of the contest. Each new pupil brings 10 points to the one bringing him, and each Sunday during the 10 weeks that new one returns an ad ditional 10 points is added to the score. The adults have a chance to win a fine whole Bible com mentary which would be a beautiful additon to any Bible student's library. The high school and junior highs can win an A.F.-F.M radio, complete with battery and ear plug-in. Also the junior and primary department pupils can win the same kind of radio, while the beginner and toddlers have a lovely Bible story book as a prize. The balloon launch is but a part of the big day planned by the church. The morning worship service, weather permitting, will be held outside under three tents. Those at tending the service are asked to come dressed in casual clothes. bring a pot-luck dinner, and their lawn chairs. After the morning worship service the church body will have a time of filling up the body as well as the spirit. Following the meal, games are planned for all. There will be baseball, horseshoes, volley ball, etc. In the evening the left-overs will be eaten and a vesper service will be held outdoors if possible. This service is reminiscent of the times when folks came from many miles around to the church for a full day of fellowship and worship at the church. Everyone is welcome to join in this service. The Rev. Gerald Robertson expresses his personal in vitation to join in. Planning for this day has been in progress for a long time and is just the beginning of the fall thrust of the church, located at 3815 Bull Valley road, McHenry PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY.
