PAiiE 7 - PLAINDEALER - THAT LITTLE WHITE BALL - also known as a golf ball, can give golfers a challenge. Often, It does not stay on the fairway. In the above photo, during the championship round at Chapel Hill Golf club iast Sunday, it caused a problem for Bill Fuiava. On the seventeenth fairway, his approach shot found the bushes. Bill played the shot and put it on the green, and finished just three strokes back at 77-77 for a 36 hole total of 154. This weekend there is a full slate of games in the conference. Pre season games are over, and now the teams play for the coveted title, and a chance to enter the State Playoffs in November. Right off the bat the schedule makers have a beauty. Two of the favorites play tonight at Woodstock, when the Streaks host the Tigers from Crystal Lake Central. It is the opinion of many, that this game just might well be the championship game of the conference. However, there are still seven weeks of the season remaining, and in high school football anything can happen. The Skyhawks from Johnsburg open their home season tomorrow at McCracken rield, when they host the Hononegah Indians from Rockton. The Skyhawks took it on the chin in their opener dropping a close decision to Grayslake by the score of 20 to 14. It will be the opener in the Shark Confernce for the Skyhawks, and we wish them well. The McHenry High Booster Club is looking for members. At present there are only thirty-five signed up for membership. With a school enrollment of 1,600, surely there are some parents who would want to get involved in helping the athletic program. Membership is open to anyone over eighteen years of age, so recent grads, parents and Warrior fans, you are most welcome to join the club. At all home games there is a booth to sign you up. The goal is three hundred members There should be at least twice that many in this community. Congratulations to Sue Hutchinson, McHenry High junior and a member of the girls tennis team. She took second place last Saturday at the Dundee Invitational. Sue plays number one singles for the girls tennis team. The froeh-soph cross country team won the Wauconda Invitational last Saturday. It looks as if the futur is again bright for the Warriors, as they topped twenty-one other schools for the title. A big surprise in the varsity division was Marian Central. The "Canes" won the event, which will have to give a boost to their program. Of the twenty-two schools entered, only Marian and Johnsburg were Class A. All other were Class AA. Darryl May was the individual winner, and Coach Hans Rokus is one happy fellow. The McHenry sophomore football team won a squeaker over Grant 9 to 6 last Friday night to remain unbeaten. Bob Kalck had a one yard touchdown run. and a safety completed the young Warriors scoring for the night. The crystal ball really got cracked last week The Northwest Suburban conference really put it to the Fox Valley. With the opening of the conference seasons for the area schools, I'll stick my neck out once again. I'll pick the Warriors over Cary Grove have a feeling that this is going to be one of those days for Warrior fans. The Streaks over Crystal Lake Central. It will be a real barnburner. The Steaks running attack against the Tigers Tom Pence passing Jacobs over Crown. The poor Vikes are really having trouble again this season, and the Golden Eagles are given a sleeper's play in the Fox Valley. In a toss-up Dundee over Crystal Lake South Dundee got walloped by St Ed's last week, and the Gators still haven't got into the scoring column Hononegah over the Skyhawks Indians always one of the powers of the tough Shark league, and their enrollment alone should warrant a victory. Marian over Marmion Lost a toughie to Marengo last week, as did Marmion to Aurora Central, but the Canes should come out on top | CHAPEL HILL | * SUNDAY 1 • SWINCERS > The Chapel Hill "Swingers" closed their season of league play with Flag Golf If we didn't learn anything else from this game, we did find out our handicaps are pretty accurate Most of the flags were planted around or on the 9th green There were three winners, having placed their flag in the Wh hole on the final putt, Bill Hayes. Floyd Johnson and Dee Schuette The highlight of the day was Daisy Week's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner as she planted her flag It was an iiwesome performance. She may not win an "Emmy" but I think we should create an "Arnie" or "Sandra" award for tier. It was generally felt that "Awesome Dawson" or Laughin Lori" would travel past the 9th green, but the weather was not too cooperative and it made the greens a bit difficult to putt or read "Bonnie Connie" refused to tell us where she planted her flag Sounds like she didn't have too good a game "Darin Karen" just laughed and walked in without planting her flag These two girls keep the group happy and smiling no matter how they play golf Our final event will be the "Swinging Out Day" to be held on Oct. 7th We will tee off at noon, play 9 holes of regular • honest to goodness, no gim micks) golf and then only the committee knows what will happen to us on the back 9 Dinner and awards at 7 p.m Special awards for winners on front nine and for winners and losers on back 9, so we can "swing out" with fun See you all next season There may be a few events (luring the winter of which we will keep you posted Bye for this season. The .chairman of a large business firm recently told his officers that putting an end to "unsatisfactory service" was the primary goal of the firm this year. Our bank is only a fraction of the size of that company, and we like it that way. We are proud that we don't have to "work hard" to serve our customers s a t i s f a c t o r i l y . G o o d service is just a natural way to treat your friends. And since we know most of our customers, impersonal dealings are almost unheard of here. And if you're a businessman, how well- your business does may depend to a great extent on how well your banker does his job. Our employees and officers have a genuine concern for doing the best job for every customer. We think our service is unexcelled.
