I I "She Stoops To Conquer At Opera House Opening The fall season at the Woodstock Opera House begins with "She Stoops to Conquer". The 18th Century comedy by Oliver Goldsmith opens Friday, Sept. 29 at 8:15 p.m and con tinues through Saturday. Sept. :*0 with performances at 2 and 815 p m A production of the University of Chicago's Court Theatre. "She Stoops to Conquer" emphasizes the contrast between rustic country folks and foppish London society of the period. It illustrates 18th Century at titudes of the "natural" as opposed to the "social" life. Goldsmith wanted to revive the wit and gaity of Restoration comedy while avoiding its lack of morality, and his play cleverly follows the playwright's plan Directed by Nicholas Rudall, artistic director of the Court Theatre, and enhanced with appropriate costumes and sets by Linda Buchanan, set designer and technical director for the Court, "She Stoops to Conquer" tells Goldsmith's boisterous tale of Merrie Old England with a gusto which has kept audiences laughing ever since its debut at Covent Garden. London, over 200 years ago. The three performances of "She Stoops to Conquer" are presented by the Woodstock Performing Company and the Woodstock Opera House. Sept. 29 and 30. Tickets are on sale at the Woodstock Opera House ticket office, open Tuesday through Saturday, Noon to 5:30 p.m., telephone (815) 338-5300. Seniors and student discounts are available.
