SCHMITT Mary K Schmitt, believed to be the community's oldest resident, will observe her ninety-ninth birthday Wed­ nesday, Nov. 8 Miss Schmitt, a native of the Johnsburg area, was born in 1879 Her grandfather, Frederick Schmitt. was one of the three first settlers in that community A former teacher in the Spring Grove Prairie school, one of her happiest memories is the day in 1973 when she renewed acquaintances at a gathering of many for whom she had been their first teacher Later, she accepted a position as housekeeper for a priest, a service she provided for fifty years.
