1 mi Autumn In McHenry This high contrast scene is becoming unfamiliar as fewer farmers reaped their crop of corn by the corn shocks method. But it does make an interesting scene as the three fenced in horses nibble on an early morning breakfast. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Children's Art Sought For New Christmas Seals The fresh, joyful art work of young children is again being sought for use on the Christmas Seal. This time it is the 1980 Seal Children have been designing the Seals for five years Children in kindergarten through grade three are invited to participate in the 1980 Christmas Seal Art project which is being conducted by the Lung associations in Illinois and the Illinois Art Education association. Because of the time requirements for judging and actual printing of the Seal it is necessary to work well over a year in advance, explained Ben D Kiningham, executive director of the Illinois Lung association. He urges all youngsters from kindergarten through grade three in public and parochial schools to enter the Christmas Seal Art project. The youngster creating the design chosen for Illinois will receive a special plaque and the opportunity to make ap pearances on behalf of the Christmas Seal campaign The designer of this year's Illinois Seal is Kevin Fairbairn of Freeport Children participating in this 1980 Christmas Seal Art project will be asked to create a design on two basic themes: ( 1 ) 1 h e l p d e c o r a t e my house for Christmas or the Holiday season, and ( 2 ) M y f a v o r i t e C h r i s t m a s o r holiday decoration is. .. NOVEMBER 15.1978 corner Leaves are falling rapidly and in an effort to clean up yards before the first snow falls everyone is burning leaves. Use a little caution in doing so Don't burn on windy days. Sparks flying from your fire could start a bigger one. Keep a hose handy, so your fire doesn't get out of hand The life you save may be your own! At the December meeting the boys will have a Christmas party. The pack also makes up a basket to give to a needy family Each scout ^rings a donation for the basket and the pack adds a turkey They 'll also have a grab bag at the meeting Right now, the boys are in volved in a fund raising campaign selling popcorn When a little boy comes to the door selling popcorn, help support the cubs by buying a box. LEASH LAW Many times in the past I have mentioned complaints of dogs running loose in the area There is a leash law which is not just a village or county law. but a law of the state of Illinois Pets are to be contained in the owners yard and walked on a leash Some people tend to ignore this law and turn their pets loose to roam the area Then when their pet bites some in nocent child, they become irate because their pet must be impounded at their expense, and a stiff fine is imposed for ignoring the law So a word to the wise-keep your pet in your yard Walk him on a leash Don't let some in nocent child walking down the street be bitten and terrified by your pet because you let him run wild This is what happened out here this week Two people were bitten and several others terrified by a dog that is allowed to run loose most of the time WORD OF WARNING Winter is just around the BIRTHDAYS This weeks birthday greetings go to Edwin Heim, who has his day Nov. 13 Joe Backs has his day Nov. 16, and LaVonne Sallaz does her celebrating on Nov. 17, Best wishes to you all for a happy day and many more to corhe.
