The only rules for lunch time food safety are simple: keep cold food cold and hot foods hot. With the aid of containers on the market and a little improvisation, brown bag food safety is a snap The familiar iKicuum bottle keeps soups, stews and other hot dishes hot until you 're ready to eat Cold foods such as gelatin, pudding or fruits keep beautifully in the small vacuum containers with the liquid-filled lid which is kept frozen until ready to use A small can of juice can be frozen and kept with the lunch where it will keep other foods cold and be ready to drink at mealtime A plastic margarine tub may also be filled with water and frozen and kept in the bottom of your lunch pail where it acts as a small refrigerator. If you pack your lunch the night before, store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to leave home Alever pack your lunch more than 24 hours in advance CHURCH LEADERS At the January meeting of the Blackhawk Presbytery (which includes 95 Presbyterian churches in Northern Illinois), two members of the Ridgefield- Crystal Lake Presbyterian church were elected to leadership positions. Barb Peterson will be chairperson of the committee on Care of Candidates. The pastor of the Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian church, Doug Loving, was elected to chair the Department of Cocations (which oversees three Presbytery committees). PURCHASES HAVE LITTLE IMPACT The Commodity Credit corp. (CCC) purchased 281,349 bushels of corn recently at an overall average of $2.40 per bushel. Though the purchase was an effort to help relieve congestion in the market pipeline and boost prices for farmers, some agricultural economists say the CCC's purchases had little impact. The $2.40 is the level the government calculated to be the national average price when President Carter embargoed some grain sales to the Soviet Union.
