Soybean Producers Eligible For Board Petitions are now available for soybean producers in 35 counties to make nominations for district directors to serve on the Illinois Soybean Program Operating board. The board's by-laws call for one-third of the 18 districts to elect directors each year. Rules also prohibit # any person from serving' more than two consecutive three-year terms. This year five of the six directors whose terms are expiring are no longer eligible since they have served since the check-off program was approved in 1974. Petitions may be obtained from any county Extension Service office or the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Completed petitions must be filed no later than May 15, with Director John R. Block, Illinois Department of A g r i c u l t u r e , S t a t e Fairgrounds, Springfield, 111. 62706. To qualify, a candidate must produce soybeans, participate in the check-off program, be a resident of the district and the state of Illinois, and be iof legal voting age. A candidate's petition must bear the signatures of 250 soybean growers in the petitioner's district. The election of directors will occur July 15, with balloting at county Ex tension Service offices. The new directors will take office Aug. 1. | Senior Hot Line By Lt. Gov. Dave O'Neal Although most retail businesses try to please their customers, senior citizens sometimes find they run into problems when trying to return or exchange an item. The State of Illinois Office of Interagency Cooperation has some advice for consumers in this situation. Q. What rights do I have as a consumer? A. You have the right to safety, the right to be in formed, the right to choose and the right to be heard. Q. What should my first step be when I'm dissatisfied with a product? A. Organize your material. Photocopy all relevant documents such as receipts, c a n c e l l e d c h e c k s , warraQtiesp and ad vertisements. Then decide how you want the situation corrected. Do you want your money back, an exchange, repair, credit or new mer chandise? Q. Then what? A. Go to the store where vou purchased the item and tell the personnel what you want and why. Be persistent if necessary. Q. What if I don't receive the results I want? • A. Usually you will, but if not, write a letter to the head of the company which produces the product. Keep a copy. Clearly define how the product was un satisfactory and what you want for compensation. Include the name and model number of the product, the date and place of purchase, and copies of all other relevant information. Never send your original receipts or cancelled checks. Q. What if I still fail to receive the results I want? A. If all else fails, contact your local consumer protection agency. Q. Where can I get more information on this subject? A. From the Governor's Information Agency, 160 N. LaSalle, Room 2010, Chicago, 60601, phone 312- 793-2754. In addition, a hotline for Spanish speaking persons has been set up: 312- 793=2190.
