•I»l AINOI Al l K' REMEMBERING WHEN - The above picture was taken at tMcHenry high school (now Landmark) in the 1915-16 era. Mrs. George (Margaret Miller) Stoffel sent it to us. Ed Bonslett, who has now reached the status of an Old Timer in McHenry, identified those in the group: Front row, left to right, Guy Bacon, Percy Lodtz, Germer Petesch and Francis Bonslett; second row, A.E. "Prof" Nye, school superintendent; Laura Barbian, Lenore Freund, Mary Bonslett and Irene Vasey; top row, Clara Frisby, Irene Buhr and Jane Owen. To Your Health A Service of McHenry Hospital By Marion Olsen Health Reporter It's been said before and it's worth saying again - exercise is good for you. The American Heart association reminds us that regular exercise has many benefits. It improves blood cir culation and causes the various systems of the body to work together more ef ficiently. It helps an individual handle stress so he or she has more stamina. It's psychologically uplifting and relaxing. Along with proper diet, it, can help control weight. Regular exercise helps the body make the best use of fats and sugars. The appropriate exercise for any individual is best determined by an assessment of physical condition by a physician. Exercise for the healthy person should be frequent, ongoing, repetitive, using large muscles and challenging to the cir culatory system. Such exercise includes walking, hiking, jogging, bicycling and swimming. While hardy souls have enjoyed outdoor exercise year round, those who have hibernated for the winter may need reminding of o u t d o o r e x e r c i s e precautions. Veteran hikers and joggers are aware that hard cement pavement jolts the joints and exercising on softer surfaces is easier on the body. Uneven terrain, however, may invite a turned ankle or a fall. Running along a slanted surface for an extended time puts added strain on one leg or foot, also. Bicyclers encounter hazards in the form of wet pavement and gravel which often cause accidents. Changeable weather also needs to be reckoned with. To enjoy a long bike hike, it's advisable to take along clothes for cold or wet weather. The soundest advice for swimmers is never to swim alone. The unexpected cramp may be un manageable even for expert swimmers. If there is no help readily available, dry dock is the place to be. The experts say that in any form of exercise you warm up slowly and cool down slowly. Walk before you run and walk afterwards, too. Make exercise fun by exercising wisely. They carried statements on possible adverse effects 6f the use of Sevin). SPRAYING QUESTIONS "Dear Editor: "The enclosed letters were presented to the City Council Monday, April 3$, for its consideration. I, and those who have asked that I request publication of the letters, do not endorse their contents. Rather, the letter and newspaper article were presented to raise the point that there is a serious poetential risk in the use of Sevin in a populated area and to point out that the Council has done nothing to obtain expert advice or information regarding the subject. "In all of the information solicited by the Council, there is no expert opinion from physicians and toxicologists who have been involved in research on medical treatment related to the effects of exposure to Sevin-4-Oil. In light of the potential risk outlined in these letters and without adequate knowledge of the State Rep. Donald E. Deuster (R-Mundelein) will be debating the con troversial Equal rights amendment on a program to be broadcast live on Channel It (WTTW) Wednesday evning, May 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. A The proponent speaking for ERA will be Mary Jean Collins, president of the National Organization of Women, „ Chicago chapter, and the moderator for Channel 11 will be John Calloway. Rep. Deuster is considered a leading opponent of ERA in the Illinois General Assembly. Questions about ERA will kiss from my mother made me a painter. -Benjamin West.
