Dear Friend Earl, "Thought I'd better sound off before you give us your famous remark about not hearing from the Cub fans while their team is down. The way I see it, the Cubs are going to play their championship ball after the "All Star Break" instead of before it this year. You better tip your "Sox" off if you want that All-Chicgo World Series. "Dear Jerry, "It is a shock to hear from a Cub fan when their team is folding. However, I note your letter is dated the same day as the much-heralded clubhouse meeting that turned the team around. (In a spin). "Glad you,. gave us a warning. I will relay this inside information to Bill Veeck so he can be ready for the big series. "Of course, Jerry, we are always ready. Bring 'em on! "Yours, "S.I.H." With contributions, this column should be a breeze. In sort of an "All In The Family" turn of events, Judy Walsh Smith met her uncle, Jim Walsh of Woodstock, who sent the following for another Walsh - - me. Jim read a contributed paragraph in this corner a couple of weeks ago that showed real confusion so sent the following. The author is a former Woodstock native, now a banker in Knox, Indiana. Here's how he sizes up the situation: Met Leo Heimer, one of the McHenry natives. He read about me liking eggs for breakfast and had a little story to tell. Leo bought a carton of eggs recently and couldn't believe his eyes when he cracked them open -- 11 out of 12 had double yolks. That's a new one in these days when production is down. And -- about that cholesterol scare. He heard a doctor tell the radio audience that a couple of nips a day out of the bottle will help control the cholesterol. Recreation Buss Ford State Farm ANNAUL ECONOMIC FORECAST^ By Neil Cooney Some of you may be confused by recent published reports about the course of the economy and I felt some clarification of our views might be helpful. I can tell you definitely that there is a speeding up of the rate at which business has been easing off - in other words there is a noticeable upturn in the slow-down • and I would like to clarify for'you the cautious terminology of some economists by ex plaining that this upturn in the downturn is not as good as a slowdown in the downturn, but it is a good deal better than an upturn in the downturn or a deepening of the downturn, as it does suggest that the climate is about right for an ad justment of this period of readjustment. At any rate, we expect a pick-up some time before the^end of the year if we do not have a decline. Interest rates are expected to fluctuate within normal parameters barring any developments not foreseen at this time but which, based on historical patterns, normally occur. PONYTAIL DIVISION C.R.V. Stroking a double off the centerfield wall, and hitting an RBI single off Belvidere pitcher Paul Durley, Vogt outshined centerfielder Gregg McPherron who was three for four with only one RBI. Again, McHenry _ had trouble with their pitching, using three pitchers who gave up seven runs on seven hits. Starter Chuck Dicker lasted .only two and two- thirds innings, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks. Tom Maxson came in and gave up two runs on two hits before Dave Col berg to strike out -two on his way to one and one-thirds strong shut-out innings. Belvidere starter, Paul Durley, struck out nine McHenry batters and five hits before giving way to Doug Vance for the mop-up. Colberg and first baseman Rob Bussey had one hit apiece for McHenry.
