\ Village oj McHenry Shores INGE AIDE ROSE LILLEGARD 344-1984 385-4517 PAGE IT - PLAINDEALER. FRIDAY. JULY II. ItM Discuss Taxes At Meeting One item that brought a great deal of discussion from residents at the Board committee work session July 8, was the increase in real estate property taxes. Although the village has no control, nor did anything to increase the village real estate tax, the State Department of Local Government Affairs placed an equalizer on all assessed values in McHenry county. The increase in McHenry Shores amounts to ap proximately 28 percent, which represents about $4,000, including additional property that was added to the tax rolls in the past year. This amount added to the receipts received from cable TV, that was not included in the treasurer's report as income, would come to $5,000. It was suggested that the Board show good faith and take these figures into consideration and lower the utility tax from 5 to 4 per cent, which still can be done, as the utility companies have not yet extended the rate. Another item of lengthy discussion was dog registration. At the present lime, this is done with the county, which also handles complaints. In past years, registration was done with the village, whereby the village had access to records in the event of a dog bite or dogs running loose. The county provides no patrol service on Saturdays and Sundays and patrol, for the most part, concludes at 5 p.m. on week days. Registration of dogs takeg only one-fourth the time as vehicles and is spread out through the year. Other topics covered at the m e e t i n g i n c l u d e unavailability of an ap propriation ordinance that must be passed by July 30; whether there will be ample lime for residents to have input; the lack of a public hearing for Revenue Sharing funds which is mandated by law and that board members have already discussed the spending of funds without public input; status of road p a t c h i n g ; r o a d specifications that are to be submitted to the Board at the July 29 meeting; weed cutting of empty lots and right of ways which are becoming hazardous and mosquito abatement. The above items, as well as the status of the river boat pier, will be discussed at length for the final time at ihe Board committee meeting Tuesday, July 15, at 7 p.m., before recom mendations are passed on to the Board for a final vote. Everyone's input is of essence and it won't do any good to complain after everything is done and over with. ' RETURNS HOME Lon Reed, village Building and Zoning officer on sick leave at this time, has returned from his most recent stay at the hospital. It would be a nice gesture for local residents to show concern for his well being by sending get well cards. VEHICLE STICKERS Any residents who have failed to purchase 1980-81 vehicle stickers may still acquire them at the village hall during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings until noon. The price has increased by 50 percent since the due date of June 30, and passenger vehicles are now $9. Failure to get a sticker could mean an additional cost of a police ticket and fine. VIEW LOCAL NEWS News for McHenry Shores will be included with the area news to be aired every Friday night at 9:30 p.m. on channel 3. Approximately 50 percent of the local residents subscribe to cable TV and this is another way to keep current on what is happening in the community as well as adjacent areas.
