Wonder Lake Anne Sowers 653-9549 Doctor Relocates Dr. Gregory Daly, who was so warmly welcomed into our community when he joined Dr. Santos Ruggero, has recently left the office. He has joined the emergency room staff at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County in Woodstock. Dr. Daly, along with two other doctors, have taken over the emergency room service. We will miss having him practice in Wonder Lake, but wish him the best of luck and success in his new position. s . Wright. Other teams participating in the tournament are Algonquin, Barrington, Cary, Elk Grove village, Grant Township, Island Lake, Lake in the Hills, Mundelein and Waueonda. The tournament takes place Aug. 4-10 in Lake Zurich. Congratulations to the five ballplayers who were chosen to represent Wonder Lake. FOURTH OF JULY AT WONDER LAKE The pre-fireworks Sk$ Show held at Wonder Center Beach was marred this year by an accident. Steve Loubda was taken by the Rescue squad to McHenry hospital after receiving a gouge in his foot from a broken bottle stuck in the sand. He had seventeen stitches and didn't return to the Lake until around one in the morning, long after all the festivities of the Ski show and fireworks were over. Many acts had to be shuffled around with dif ferent Ski club members filling the acts for which Steve was scheduled. Evpn with these ad justments the show still was a success. The fireworks display was as spectacular as the American Legion had promised. One was more beautiful than the one before and the young people were thrilled with the large booms! They seemed to move along so quickly loo, which is always a pleasure. No lull waiting for the next one. The weather cooperated loo. Even though a little on the chilly side - no rain-like we had last year. The lake looked as if it was a solid mass of boats all jockeying for the right position and everyone trying to gel their anchor lo hold. This is a weekend looked forward lo all year and it always turns oul to be worth waiting for! State Ends Revenue y Year With Big Balance Comptroller Roland W. & Burris said this past week that the State ended the 1980 •k^ fiscal year with an available balance of $483 million in the General funds - the highest in history - though $93 million of that amourft has been transferred (on July 2) to the Personal Property Tax Replacement fund for eventual distribution to Illinois local governments. Thus, Burris said, the actual working balance as the State begins the new fiscal year is $390 million, "cushioned" further by an additional $148 million in 10 State special funds which are unspent, are in excess of statutory requirements, and therefore a irue surplus. Had These funds been fully committed as the law provides, the Slate would have closed ihe 1980 fiscal year with $631 million in its General funds. Burris said lhat in his opinion ihe public should be made aware of surpluses in the 10 special funds lo provide a more accurate picture of Slate finances and to avoid any impression lhat the Slate is hoarding reserves. Thompson applauded the General Assembly for producing no lax hikes, for making workers' compensaiion, system changes, for providing further sales tax relief on fooji'and drugs and for expanding circuit breaker tax relief for the elderly and .handicapped. The governor was critical of the legislature's failure to produce spending and lax limits for local governments. Thompson said lhat although the lawmakers "were more conservative in this election year than in the last one with their spending, they still sent me about a half billion dollars more than was budgeted." Human Carbon Scientists say that the hu man body contains enough carbon to make more than 14,000 pencils and enough lime to paint an entire barn white. Remember your friends and neighbors during these summer days, give them a call - stop in with a couple cookies or a coffeecake, for a cup of coffee or glass of lemonade. Folks living alone are especially appreciative of such thoughtfulness! Also, remember the needs of your children, too. Plan a family picnic supper in the yard, maybe once a week, they can help. Go as a family to a Little League or regular ball team, or the ones where our men - the big boys - are playing. It will be good for all of you, and it makes such a nice feeling to talk about it on ihe way home, too! f HOSPITAL AND HOME While you are silting and relaxing lo keep up with the heal, say a special prayer for all our sick, the following, Wallace Brown, Lawrence Butler, Erich Kuhlins, Cheryl Helman- dollar, Melissa Jackson and Lynn Spencer, and those folk whom we do not know. Take good care of yourselves. DATES TO REMEMBER I'm hot and tired, too, tonight and have lost my "thinking cap" somewhere, so let me give you a few quick reminders. The sun's rays are refracted, or bent, as they enter the water drops. The light is broken up into the colors of the solar spectrum. The rainbow actual ly forms a complete circle, but the bottom half is cut off by the horizon.
