Woodstock won with a total of 34 points, a6 the Warriors finished third among the five teams participating at the varsity level. Crystal Lake Central finished s&cond with 42 points, McHenry third with 62, Jacobs fourth with 91 and Harvard fifth at 146. Gordy Bourey finished third overall and first for McHenry at 16:29. Wade Cepulis finished sixth at 16:48, while Don Mitacek finished 14th, Peschke finished 20th, Mullen came in 26th , Haderly 29th and Ferguson 35th. The McHenry sophomores won in the Frosh-Soph division among a field of four teams from Crystal Lake Central, Jacobs, Marian Central and McHenry. McHenry edged Crystal Lake Central by 31-29 as McHenry filled the first and second slot with Brian Wright at 17:21 and Steve Carby at 17:12. Darren Cepulis finished sixth, Rollie Ostrander finished tenth, Eric Gaza finished 17th, Ball finished 19th, and Patterson came in 28th. Runners for Johnsburg included Jay Jackson, eighth, and Paul Metzger, 21st. In the girls category, Woodstock took honors with 16 points and boasting the first two runners. McHenry came in fourth and John­ sburg finished six among the six teams participating. Mary Bazan took fifth place overall and first for the Warriors with a time of 13:27. Delia Saunders squeezed in ninth place, Beth Lance ran to a 17th place finish and Barb Zuber came in 24th and Sue Pender ran 27th. Sue Polka ended in 32nd place. From Johnsburg, Lydia Oakley finished 19th and all the other girls finished 34th or lower. The freshman race saw Marian Central take honors as Jay Chapman came in at 11:55 to pace the field and Jeff. A girl (she's only 86 years young), Anne Barrow, who moved from McHenry to Woodstock, is still a loyal Plaindealer reader. That's the old spirit! It was a breezy morning as I hung onto my hat and met Horace Wagner sailing along wearing a French beret. I looked it up and found the following names on the 1911-1912 team: Mary Burke, Inez Bacon, Frances Welch, Agnes Tesch an3 Helen' Robinson. They were the Bloomer Girls. That team was in the McHenry Public School, now Landmark. Later history covers McHenry Community High School, starting in the fall of 1024.
