>IRANY< ALAN EKEROTH-has qualified for the Skyway Conference all-conference golf team after his first season of play on the McHenry County College golf team. Ekeroth had a 76 average for MCC and went with the conference team to Decatur for the slate competition and may qualify for the National College Golf Tournament in June. Graduating as the mainstay of the 1979 McHenry High School golf squad, Ekeroth averaged a 39 per nine holes under coach Chuck Cuda. "EARL WALSH' So I Hear It is easy to know the seasons are changing. Beautiful leaves are falling. Another sure sign -- the warm bed covers feel good and a fellow sleeps best when it it time to get out of the sack in the morning. The time has come to make changes in care of the birds. Have our grandson, Brendan, engaged to take down the houses and put up the feeders. Envy is not in my makeup -- not until today while waiting behind a young fellow at a red light. When he pulled out a comb to pretty up his hair, something came over me. Pulling my big chair out to the center of the room while housecleaning goes on is a bit disrupting. Can't wait to get back in my own corner. Smear tactics, the lowest form of politics, is seen on all sides these days. It would seem that good men and women ^could expound on their own qualifications and merit. Wouldn't you faint if a politician said, "My opponent is a fine person, but I want the job. I need the job. I can do a better job than my opponent. I'll say no more." Hail to the Champs! The Phillies went right down to a heart stopping last strike to beat the Royals. Oh, that National League! Somebody up there must like them. Great pitching and real big league defense told the story when the chips were down. The Royals' manager is sure to come in for some criticism when the hot stove league convenes during the winter. Having Brett play in at third base with Mike Schmidt at bat in the fifth game was a mistake. No way was Schmidt going to bunt in that situation. Brett couldn't field a screacher. Letting Cardenal bat in the ninth inning was also a move that will be gone over a few times. Cardenal is at least part way over the hill and a couple of better hitters were on the bench. Those teams were evenly matched if ever two teams were. Summing it up, one has to credit the Phillies with playing a bit better baseball. With the World Series over, we can watch football, basketball and make plans for the White Sox in 1981. The McHenry Warriors will play their final home game of the season tonight when they host the Jacobs Golden Eagles in a Fox Valley game at McCracken field. Jacobs is winless this season dropping all seven contests, but they played one of its better games last week, before bowing to Woodstock 29 to 6. Coach Bob Bejeck is disappointed with his team this season. Pre-season hopes of a winning season has not come to pass, and the Golden Eagle coach is eyeing the Warriors to stop his losing string. The Warriors, having lost a close 3 to 0 game to the Tigers of Crystal Lake, will be looking for a win tonight. Two goal-line defenses by the Tigers kept the Warriors out of paydirt and a victory. Look for the Warriors to go all out in their home final, and with everybody in good health they should put another win in their pockets. They must not take the Eagles too lightly, as the Eagles are struggling for survival.
