The playmaking of Patti Johnson, along with the sharp-shooting of Helen Kennedy and Gerry Haner overwhelmed the Saints from the start Coming in and continuing the domination of play were Danielle Schiller, Monique Betancourt, Karen Thomp­ son, Jody J us ten, Deanne Martin and Jenny Wirtz. Warrior Sophs Win Dan Boland's McHenry sophomores defeated Jacobs last Friday night by the score of 8 to 6. A 32 yd. pass late in the final period from Randy Lively to Jeff LQmax put the Warriors on the board. A pass from Lively to Todd Rehberg was good for the PAT, giving the Warriors their second win of the season. The offense was led by Lomax and John Clewis. The defense in the second half was especially good led by Clewis, Adams, Oleksijew and Parisi. The soph's record is now 2 and 6 for the season. The overall record for the Warriors was 13-1, with the only defeat coming at the hands of the state champion Crystal Lake South. In 1980, the MCHS team was young and will have seven lettermen returning for next season. Seniors who are leaving include Mike Lawler and Joe Bauml. Juniors receiving a varsity letter are Mike Nank, Dan Long, and Doug M uller, while the sophomore letter winners were Kirk Barnicle, Mike Bauml, Steve Svec and Brad Adams, many of who played an important role in this year's success. The J.V. squad finished with an 11-3 record and junior varsity members such as Randy Buenzli, Rob Mortell and Scott Grady will be pressing for varsity positions next year. Fresh­ men Ken Lange, Tom Neuman and Bob Gende also showed good form this year for the Warriors. The most consistent golfer McHenry To Insure Winning Season Joe Schlender's McHenry Warriors will close out the 1980 season tomorrow afternoon when they journey to Crown high school to take on the Vikings. A win tomorrow will insure the Warriors of a winning season, one of the pre-sea son goals. The Vikings of Bob Carlson are2 and 4 in the Fox Valley, the same as the Warriors. ' The Crown coach is a bit disappointed this season, as he had high hopes of turning the program around into a winner. The Vikings are a big team both on offense and on defense. However with that size, they also lack team speed, an asset that the Warriors have with plenty to spare. The middle of the Viking line has plenty of beef, with tackles-6'1", 237 lb. junior Rocky Krzyiocki and 6'1", 190 lb. Bruce Hansen, to go along with nose guard 185 lb. Paul Ciochon. Senior quarterback Roger O'Connor can put the ball in the air, and he has tailback Lynn Grant to carry the mail. The Warriors gunning for a winning season will go all put in their final game. Fresh from a big win last Friday night over defending champions Jacobs, Coach Schlender is hoping for a win. However, he said, "We can't take Crown too lightly", and then added "they have played some pretty good ball this sea, but a break here and there has kept them out of the win column". Kickoff time is 2:30 p.m. in the Crown Bowl. for the Warriors was sophomore Mike Bauml this year. He placed either first or second in nine of the 14 Warrior matches this year with his low score of the year being a 36 against Prospect and Antioch. He was also low man in the Crown Invitational with a 74 and the Lake Forest In­ vitational with an 80. During Invitational play, McHenry finished second at Crown, second at Lake Forest, third in the Fox Valley Conference and eighth in the state. Steve Mai Honored At Baker For the second time this football campaign, Steve Mai, 1977 graduate of McHenry High School, was named Player-of-the-Week at Baker University in Kansas. Mai caught a 30-yard touchdown pass and shook two defenders in carving out a 14-0 lead over Missouri Valley last Saturday. Baker, ranked fifth in the nation in N.A.I.A. competition, won the game 42-0 and Mai was honored as he now has caught 10 passes for close to 200 yards on the season. Mai also will participate on the Baker baseball team in the Spring, where he plays shortstop. / W * CONSISTENCY-was the trademark of Warrior sophomore, Mike Bauml, who paced the McHenry golf squad to an eighth place finish in the state. Little did Bauml know that his 37 in McHenry's opening match against Grant would be his average for the rest of the season. He carded scores of 36,37,38, or 39 in each of his first nine matches before the Autumn chill raised his scores a bit toward the end of the season and the hot hand transferred to Kirk Barnicle and Brad Adams. A win for the locals will give them a 5 and 4 season, and a turnabout from the past several years. "Hutch" cross country team just missed going to the sectonal this week, however freshman Brian Wright did qualifly. We wish him the best at the Mundelein sectional on Saturday. The veteran coach will have 4 lot of returning lettermen for next season. From all reports it was a real battle down to I The volleyball team is struggling in the Fox Valley, but has been playing quite well in recent weeks. Well there is always next year. - Three years ago former Woodstock Sentinel Sport's Editor Don Doxie, wrote a column on the formation of the Fox Valley Conference. His super ego carried him away, when he made some statements in regards to the new Fox Valley Conference. He stated that Woodstock along with Dundee would be the Ohio State-Michigan of the FV in fall sports. Crystal Lake and McHenry may give the Streaks trouble in cross country, but with Crystal Lake splitting, and he thought the Warriors would be in two separate schools, the Streaks would again be the class of the league. He went on to say that overall in all sports, that the Streaks would be champions year in and year out. Mr. Doxie is now in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and doesn't have to eat his words. Woodstock the pre-conference football favorite the past three years has yet to win a championship. Cary Grove beat them this year, Crystal Lake Central won it a couple of years ago, and Jacobs won last year. True they have won a couple of cross country championships, a volleyball championship, no basketball or baseball, field hockey, tennis, did pick up a couple of track championships. That column has been put up in every lock room in the Fox Valley.'The mere sight of that column has had every team up while playing the Streaks. I don't know if the column has anything to do with the Blue Streaks failure to win the football championship, but I'll bet it has played an important part. As far as the football playoffs go, Cary Grove will represent the Fox Valley next Wednesday, no matter-the outcome of their game with Jacobs Saturday. Woodstock has to win over Dundee to even be considered, but will rely on the Warriors and hopefully Crystal Lake South to win. Even with an 8 and 1 record, the Streaks will find it difficult, unless the Warriors and Crystal Lake South both win for winning records. Each is 4 and 4 going into the final game. The At-Large entries, which Woodstock hopes to qualify, are determined by the number of victories of an 8 and 1 record over schools with a winning record. At the present Woodstock has only one win over a winning team, Crystal Lake Central. They could have 4 by tomorrow night, if the Warrior and South both win, and Antioch beats Warren tommorrow. There is no Class system this year, each team will play another team in his own enrollment range. Makes it tough to scout as there are a lot of teams in the area with almost the same enrollment. Woodstock cracked my crystal ball last week, but I'll pick the Streaks to really pout it on if they have the chance over hapless Dundee. The Warriors to close out with a winning season over Crown. Cary Grove to thrash Jacobs. And in a inter-city game I'll take the Gators with their speed over Central.
