GARDENCLUB The November meeting of the Wonder Lake Garden club had a change of locale to "Ostend Acres" with Mrs. B. Alderson as hostess. Our guest speaker for the evening was John Shield of the McHenry County Con servation District who, with breathtaking slides of various areas, illustrated the three main objectives of the district; namely preser vation, recreation and education. The flora and fauna vary with the seasons and is a constant revelation while canoeing, hiking, and pic nicking turn to snowmobiling, and cross country skiing for the sports minded. Facilities include 13 sites to choose from, Harrison-Benwell to Coral Woods or Beck's Woods to the "Hollows". How fortunate we are to have these areas to enjoy and appreciate and the people who had the vision to conserve for us and further generations. Saturday, Dec. 13, is our annual Christmas luncheon and gift exchange for all members and guests. Looking forward to seeing you then. Mrs. B. "We have a long history of successful refresher cour ses," said Mrs. Amore. "Any professional nurse who has been inactive in the field for five or more years is invited to call me and learn about our program." The course includes lec tures, demonstration and supervised nursing care experience. After a review of basic nursing concepts, the refresher course staff presents descriptions and practical instructions of contemporary, concepts. "Current ideas like nur sing audit, terminology like 'c.v.p. catheter' and p r o c e d u r e s l i k e hyperalimentation, tend to intimidate nurses who have left their profession while they are' raising a familiy. "These nurses are I resource which society1 cannot afford to lose, however. Our semi-annual refresher courses have proved that they can return to a modern acute-care hospital as extremely competent and know ledgeable professionals." There is no charde for the course except for the cost of a textbook. Further in formation may be obtained from Mrs. Amore at 385-2200, extension 642.
