Just follow the recipe below and pack the popcorn into cans of various sizes such as the tall sauce cans from packaged dinners, shorter cans of spaghetti and the smaller cans that frozen juice comes in. They are such fun to make, the children will want to join in the holiday spirit and help. The "candles" can be trimmed with a pretty ribbon of any color that's left over from package wrapping, and used as a trim for the mantelpiece or as a centerpiece for the holiday table. They also make lovely gifts with a personal touch that says how much you care. This year why not bring the tradition of popcorn to your home whether as popcorn balls, garland around the tree, or as brightly decorated candles. HOLIDAY POPCORN "CANDLES" 1 package (5 oz. or 142 g)' Popcorn 1 cup (240 ml) sugar 1/2 cup (120 ml) corn syrup 1/2 cup (120 ml) water 1/4 cup (60 ml) butter or margarine Extra utensils needed: Empty sauce can, canned pasta can or juice can. Prepare popcorn according to package directions. Many claims have been made, but clinical data to back up the claims are lacking. Is it effective in treating sexual dysfunction? Rats fed a vitamin E deficient diet do indeed become sterile. Human testing is com­ plicated since much of human sexuality is psychological and placebo effects are strong and variable. Some instances of beneficial effects have been reported, but overall it would not appear that vitamin E is of any value in preventing male impotence or sterility or in altering the outcome of pregnancy. Is it effective in heart conditions? Although an occasional study reports positive results, the majority show vitamin E to be inef­ fective in treating or preventing heart disease. However, the question of effect on circulation is still unresolved because vitamin E does produce a reduction of symptoms of intermittent claudication. Is it effective in athletic ability,aging and cancer? There is no strong evidence that vitamin E improves athletic ability, slows aging or protects against cancer. Is it effective against air pollution? Animal ex­ periments suggest that vitamin E may provide protection against lung damage, but additional studies are still needed. Is overdosage dangerous? There is no evidence at the present time that tocopherols are toxic. popcorn in large pan or bowl.
