Sunnyside Area Betty Messer 344-2494 19 81 Vehicle Tags On Sale The 1961 vehicle tags for the village of Sunnyside went on sale Dec. 1. Stickers are available from the village clerk, 1405 W. Bayview lane. All residents are required to display a current sticker on each vehicle registered to their name and address. Failure to do so will result in a ticket and a fine. The deadline for displaying the current sticker is Feb. 15, 1961. Our ordinance reads that the sticker must be displayed in a conspicuous place on the vehicle. This does not mean keep it in the glove compartment. If you are Stopped by the police and have a current stacker and it is not on the car, you are still subject to a ticket and a fine. ELECTION PETITIONS This coming year is an election year for the village. The election will be held on April 7, 1960. Residents will be voting for 3 trustees, president or mayor and village clerk. Petitions for nomination to be put on the ballot are available from the village clerk, 1405 W. Bayview lane. If you have any questions, call 385-6023. VILLAGE MEETING The village of Sunnyside held its second monthly meeting of the month Tues., Dec. 16, at the Johns burg Junior high. Members of the Johns burg PTO have ap­ proached the village about the feasibility of a bike path to the Middle school and Junior high. The biggest obstacle at this time is right of way. It is hoped that by Spring a suitable program can be accomplished. The police department feel the bigger problem is proper use of bicycles. Hopefully a program to educate youngsters on the proper way to ride and traffic signals will be drawn up by Spring along with a bicycle registration. The police department already hold' a yearly registration where each bike is given a number and a record kept with the department. In the event a bike is lost or stolen this aids the department in finding it and getting it back to the rightful owner. VANDALISM A number of calls have come into the clerk's office of vandalism to mail boxes. Apparently there are some who are getting their kicks from knocking down mail boxes or tearing the flags off. Mail has also been taken out of boxes and tossed away, to be found in ditches or not at all. Tampering with mail is a federal offense. Parents would do well to advise their children that you do not touch other mail boxes or mail. A lost Social Security check can result in some senior citizen waiting at least 3 months to recover a lost check. DONATION A garage door opener was donated by the police department and installed at the village hall by the department. At the present time the squad is housed in the garage at the hall. It is hoped that next Spring work can resume on the hall and the village will start using it as their meeting place. At this time the building is not heated, and plumbing facilities are not installed. Due to lack of heat work, the interior will not be com­ pleted until next Spring. I TRAFFIC FATALITIES The Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State police report a 16.7 percent decrease in November Illinois highway traffic fatalities when compared to November 1979 figures. Provisional figures show 140 November deaths, down from 168 for the same month last year.
