FAMILY GATHERS AT DOWELL HOME FOR BIRTHDAY Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Dowell entertained the family on Sun­ day for dinner in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Loren Har­ rison. Joining in on the cel­ ebration were the Dowell s and son, Billy, Loren and Ruth Har­ rison, Rlrs. Marie Henne, Miss Faith Wagner, Clarence and Marian Harrison, their son, Gary, and daughter Krystal. Also David Harrison. CARD CLUB MEETS The home of Mrs. WolfShadle was the scene for the ladies' card club last Wednesday. High scorer for the afternoon was Mrs. Blanche Howe and Mrs. Ruby Shepard taking low. BIRTHDAYS Birthday wishes to Althea Walkington and Buelah Kick who share the twenty-eighth, and to Yvonne Petska, birthday wishes on the thirty-first--also on the thirty-first, a most happy birth­ day wish to my aunt and god­ mother, Eva Schaefer. Best wishes--on August 1, happy birthday to Lee Walkington and to Phyllis and Jim O'Halleran, happy sixteenth anniversary also on the first. On August 2, happy birthday to Aunt Su­ sie Hiller--and to Dave Klapp- erich, on the third of August, greetings for a happy birth­ day! AROUND TOWN Ajjd Mrs. Leonard Ack- erman anchfernily, and "adop­ ted-part-time-daughter" Linda Brennan spent the Fiesta Day with the Howard Wagners in McHenry. They watched the parade and water show, and all enjoyed a cook-out in the yard for supper. Tina Anderson of Twin Lakes spent Friday and Saturday with Mrs. Ruby Shepard. On Satur-/ day, her mother, Mrs. Charles Anderson, picked up Tina. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kor- wicki and Mrs. Paul Miller of Kenosha called on Mrs. Nel­ lie Hepburn on Sunday after­ noon. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Soddy of Kenosha and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson of Wilmette, call­ ed on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wiedrich of Burlington, Wis., called on Mrs. Wiedrich on Sunday. On Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Page of McHenry and her sister, Alice Frazier of Grin- nell, Iowa, called on Mrs. Ru- hy Shepard. M^s. Joe M. Schmitt of Mc­ Henry, my mom, stopped up for a visit on Tuesday, after spending a couple of weeks with her folks in Washington. She also brought some of those luscious aplets and cotlets for Phyllis Ackerman and me to share. Sure did enjoy them, as always. Mrs. Charles Brennan, Mrs. Kenneth Brennan, Mrs. Nellie Hepburn and Web Blackson were Antioch callers on Saturday. STATE TELLS NEW TEACHER RECRUIT PROGRAM Ray Page, Illinois Superin­ tendent of Public Instruction, has announced that a program has been put into operation to bring more than 400 teachers and teacher aides into the tea­ ching ranks for the 1969-70 school term. The persons taking part in the program are qualified to teach or be tea­ cher aides but have not been active in the teaching field. Superintendent Page said 412 recruits have been assigned to take part in four programs sponsored through a $701,085 state grant under the Federal Educational Professional De­ velopment act. The programs provide for the training of 312 teachers and 100 teacher aides for periods of six to eighteen weeks. Page said the program is being conducted in an ef­ fort to alleviate a teacher shor­ tage during the next school term. PREFERRED CUSTOMERS!
