WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 1925 wr OUTWARD BOUND NEXT FOR GUILD Unusual Play to be Staged Late in March "Outward Bound," by Sutton Vane, is announced as the third production of the North Shore Theatre Guild for the cur- rent dramatic season on the north shore. The play is to be staged under the direction of Alexander Dean. It is safe to predict, Guild leaders de- clare, that this piece will be provoca- tive of more violent controversy and differences of opinion than any play yet presented by that organization. Whether one can agree with its philosophy, or not, all must attest to its dramatic appeal, they maintain. Burns Mantle has ranked "Outward Bound" as one of the 10 best plays of the 1923-24 season. John Corbin of the New York Times said of it: "Something rather extraordinary happened last night. A play about death caught the attention of a New York audience, en- listed its sympathy, amused it generally and ended by stirring it to a very con- siderable depth of human pity and moral terror." Hayward Broun of the New York World said: "It is touched with the most extraordinary imagination, and is among the most interesting and moving events which have happened in the theatre." Alexander Woolcott of the New York Herald said: "It is one play in a thou- sand--ifull to the brim with awe." "Outward Bound" ran for six months in New York and played last autumn in several cities of the Kast. In bringing it to Chicago for the first time the Guild is carrying out one of its cherished policies. In realistic "setings" the Giuld pro- ductions, particularly those of "Pygmal- ion," "Mixed Marriage," "The Truth About Blayds," and "Fashion," stand out vividly in memory. In "Outward Bound" one may look forward to a most unusual scene, the cabin of a ship, which will be carefully executed by Aleyn Burtis, producer for the Theatre Guild. Performances will be given in Kenil- worth on March 25; Lake Forest, March 26; Highland Park, March 27; Win- netka, March 28 and 30, and Evanston, March 31 and April 1.
