WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK. SATURDAY. APRIL 25. 1925 REST CAMP TO FETE ITS BOYS Homecoming Day for Win- ter Campers at Arden Shore Set for May 3 PLAN A CROWDED DAY Boys to Explain Progress in Business World BY ARDEN SHORE WORKER Homecoming Day, the annual re- union of the graduate boys of the win- ter camp and the biggest day of the year at Arden Shore, is set for Sun- day, May 3, and the Board of Direc- tors of the Arden Shore association extend a cordial invitation to all friends of Arden Shore to come to the camp and join with the boys in this happy celebration. The Great Lakes orchestra will be there to help entertain the guests, the Girls Glee club of New Trier High school will sing and the speaker will be Perrv Dunlap Smith, headmaster of the North Shore Country Day school. Also. the boys themselves, both the graduate and those at the camp, will add their bit to the entertain- ment. After the program tea will be served by the social committee and the graduates of the camp will keep open house in their own building which they are giving as a token of their apnre- ciation of what Arden Shore has done for them. Help Boys to Manhood It is the aim of the Arden Shore as- sociation to look after its hovs when they leave the camp until they are established in business and well on the road to independent and respected citizenship. To be sure it does not always succeed, many times it fails, but the great majority of the boys do make good and when they come back to the camp for Homecoming Day and report their progress the Arden Shore staff has good cause to be proud of its work. Perhaps the public does not fully realize what a splendid work is being done in the way of forging this link of friendship between these boys, mostly of foreign parentage, and the men and women of a different walk in life who give their time and their money to support this great camp at Lake Bluff. It is the same doctrine of friendliness that is being preached by all our great social workers and its spirit is making of the Arden Shore boys little Americans who have had planted in their hearts the fine ideals of American manhood and the desire to support, to the best of their ability, the institutions of American govern- ment. Every year Arden Shore sends out from 75 to 100 of these boys who have been built up physically to their normal weight and who have been given higher standards of living and thinking than they ever knew before. No mean contribution, surely, to the life of our great city. Conduct Boys' Clubs Follow-up work is carried on in Chi- cago by means of Big Brothers and Arden Shore Boys' clubs. One club meets at Sherman Park Field House, one at Gads Hill Settlement and one at Association House. They are all un- der the leadership of a young Y. M. C. A. man and they have a governing council of their own members who make the rules and deal with all of- fenders. There is also an advisory council of Arden Shore board mem- bers. The men of the Exchange club, of which F. M. Bowes of Kenilworth is president, take a keen interest in these clubs and contribute to their support. The clubs provide healthful and MARMON MARMON NORTH SHORE SALES and SERVICE 1008 Davis 5t. These boys do not come from the Juvenile Court nor from the deliquent class and the Arden Shore association endeavors to keep them out of the courts and the reform schools. The older boys are being trained to take a friendly inter- est in the welfare of the younger ones and the whole organization is pledged to try to live up to Arden Shore ideals and to. support the work of the camp in every way possible. The Big Brothers are also doing a valuable work in giving the boys suit- able employment and helping them with friendly counsel. More Big Brothers are always needed and means will be gratefully received by Mrs. F. G. Wacker, 208 College road, Lake Forest. Homecoming Day gives a special ep- portunity to the people of the north shore to see for themselves the results of their generous investment in Arden Shore. The entrance to the camp is on Sheridan road a short distance north of Lake Bluff. Local trains on the North Shore line stop at Arden Shore station.
