Robert Gray Williams, prominent lawyer, business man and widely known public speaker, deliv- ered the principal address at the com- mencement exercises of New Trier high school, Friday evening, June 19 in the school auditorium. Approximately 240 pupils received diplomas presented by President Leslie F. Gates at that time. Mr. Williams is a resident of Win- chester, Va., where he has practiced law since 1900. He has been city solici- tor of Winchester for 12 years and is president of the Handley Foundation trustees, who are entrusted with a $2,000,000 fund left to the schools and libraries of the city by the late Judge John Handley, and is a Phi Beta Kap- pa. He is also associated with several of the largest business enterprises in Winchester. His subject was "A Word of Cheer for an Age of Doubt." Have Impressive Program An impressive program marked the graduation exercises. The invocation was delivered by the Rev. E. Ashley Gerhard, pastor of Christ church, Winnetka. There were addresses by Mr. Gates and Superintendent Freder- ick E. Clerk of the high school and by Franklin Arnold, president of the grad- uating class. The benediction was pronounced by the Rev. Stephen A. Lloyd, pastor of the First Congrega- tional church of Wilmette.
