10 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JULY 18, 1925 od NORTH SHORE GOLFERS Wilmette Girl - Wins Event at Open Day Match ISS JANET BYRNES of the North Shore Golf club with a score of 102-24, 72 net, won the first low net prize at the North Shore Golf club Friday, July 10, when the club held Open day for members of the Woman's Western Golf associa- tion, with more than 100 leading women golfers of the western district participating in the event. Mrs. Lee Mida of Butterfield won the low gross match with a 90, and Mrs. Joseph F. Horn, (Miriam Burns), who won the Woman's Western championship in 1923, held second place with a score of 92. Prizes were also awarded to Mrs. J. W. Walsh of Westmoreland for fifth low net, whose score was 106-21, 85 net: and to Mrs. A. D. Collins of North Shore, who had 31, the fewest number of putts on 18 holes. This week, the Gay Bichl trophy match, a one day tournament, was won by Mrs. J. E. Barron, whose low net score was 96-13, 83. Wilmette Takes Past Skokie Club Honors ONDAY, July 20, will be the occasion of a morning contest at Skokie, of match play against par versus handicap, with the customary putting contest in the after- noon at 2 o'clock. This past week, the morning's flag contest was won by Mrs. W. J. King of Wilmette who had a score of 116, and the afternoon's putting event went to Miss Margaret Williams, also of Wilmette, whose score was 41. During the coming week, from July 20 to July 24, inclusive, the Evanston city championship will be played off at the Evanston Golf club. Among those who will probably enter from Skokie will be Mrs. Edgar Stevens of Kenil- worth, Mrs. Paul Chace of Glencoe, Mrs. H. C. Phillips of Evanston, and Mrs. H. C. Hackett of Chicago. Plan for Next Women Voters' Convention LREADY plans are in the mak- ing for next year's convention of the National League of Wom- en Voters. According to a recent announcement from the headquarters at Washington, D. C., the 1926 session will be held in St. Louis, April 14 to 21. Invitations were received, it is stated, from the governor of Missouri, the mayor of St. Louis, and the St. Louis and Missouri league of women voters. This prospective meeting will be of especial interest in that it was at St. Louis, that the organization of the National League of Women Voters was proposed by Mrs. Carrie Chap- man Catt in the spring of 1919. Local Clubs Near Top in Team Championship Play NOTHER match in the North Shore Woman's Western Golf association team championship tournament was held at the Evanston Golf club, Monday of this week, with the Evanston club in first place, with Skokie second, with a score of 77; In- dian Hill, 67%; Glenview, 51; North Shore, 50; Briergate, 11. At the present scoring, the standing of the teams at the end of the third match in the championship contest is as follows: Evanston, 259; Skokie, 234%; ; Indian Hill, 199%; Exmoor, 190; Glenview, 138; North Shore, 114; Briergate, 571; Onwentsia, 555. The members gathered at the home of Mrs. Robert H. Ripley, 29 Indian Hill road, where the hostess' beautiful gar- den with its wealth of flowers made 1 setting of colorful charm. Mrs. Stephen Foster read a paper on "Japa- nese Flower Arrangement." The date of the next meeting has not been an- nounced. GARDEN CLUB IN TOUR HE Wilmette Garden club will make a tour of the gardens of its members, Friday, July 17, commencing at 2 o'clock, in the gar- den of Mrs. D. Cook of Evanston. Miss Beatrice Hillinger, 1520 Spen- cer avenue, was hostess to a delight- ful party Saturday evening, July 11, when she entertained 20 guests at a Japanese lawn party in celebration of her. nineteenth birthday. Games and dancing out of doors were the special features of the evening. Mrs. Hubert E. Holdoway of 723 Forest avenue, returned Saturday, June 11, from Long Beach, Cal. where she had been visiting her mother since June. Sunset Ridge Golfers Compete in July Tourney URING- this month, women golf devotees at Sunset Ridge club have been busily engaged in a July tournament of net handicap play in two divisions, the 18 hole class and the 9 hole group. Tuesday of this week 'the former group had played into the third bracket with the four following play- ers still in the running: Mrs. R. E. Doonan who was to play Mrs. F. D. Coambs, and Mrs. C. D. Wagstaff who was paired with Mrs. A. T. Goodman. The players in the 9 hole match reached the semi-finals Tuesday, with Mrs. 'Dorr C. Price and Mrs. H. 1. Strickler the winners. Next Tuesday, the first group will play into the semi- finals, with the second calss playing off the finals. Interest in Woman's Golf Continues at Indian Hill HE event for women golfers at Indian Hill Wednesday, July 22, will be 18 holes of medal play with handicap, with prizes for the first and fifth scores. Special prizes will be awarded for the special events. Wednesday of this week, the players were competing for low gross and low net scores with a choice of the first and second 9, and one half handicap. La Petite Causerie will Attend Opera Performance HE, members of La Petite Caus- erie, the French department of the Woman's Library club of Glencoe, will attend the presentation of the opera, "Samson and Delila," Saturday evening, July 18, and a group from Le Cenacle, the French Reading club of Chicago, will hear {Romeo and Juliet," Sunday night.
