Bid Jy WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JULY 25, 1925 OPERA SUBSCRIBERS URGED NOT TO DELAY The drive for subscriptions to Chi- cago Civic opera for the coming sea- son continues on all fronts, it is re- ported. Prospective subscribers are urged to make immediate renewals for the 1925-26 season for the reason that im- mediate subscription now means a choice of select seats, whereas, if sub- scription is postponed until a later date, the prospective subscriber has little to choose from. Many opera-goers will be disap- pointed if they wait longer to pur- chase their subscription seats for any one or more of the subscription per- formances to be given on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday nights and Saturday matinees. The longer opera patrons wait to subscribe, the more difficult it becomes to reserve seats that are desired. Present plans and indications point to the fact that the 1925-26 season will far surpass all previous years, it is stated, and with this present outlook, prospective opera-goers are urged by the management to subscribe before 1t 1s too late. A deposit of 30 per cent 1s required to reserve seats, the bal- ance payable in October. Lutheran Congregation Invites to Its Service The Rev. D. A. Lofgren of Chicago, will preach this Sunday at the Lutheran services to be held in Christ church Parish house, Oak and Linden streets. His subject will be, "On the Mount of Transfiguration." Albert Hedlund of Chicago will sing two solos during the services: "Jesus Only," and "Face to Face." Mrs. Clifford Baugh, formerly of Winnetka, now of La Grange, was the guest of Mrs. F. O. Neubacher for a short time last week. During her stay, her hostess entertained with a motor trip and luncheon in Milwaukee. Bandit Who Stole Cab Deserts it in Village Winnetka police were puzzled last Wednesday when they found the Yel- low taxicab which was taken from a driver early this week in Chicago by a man who said that he was "Teddy" Webb, escaped killer from the honor farm at Joliet penitentiary. The cab was abandoned on Garland avenue, and was discovered when residerits of the neighborhood became suspicious after it had been parked there all day. Police do not place much credence in the repeated rumors that Webb has been seen in the vicinity and they rea- son that had the man who stole the cab really been Webb he would never have told his name. They are attempt- ing to learn whether anyone who lives in the village was connected with the robbery. Wilmette Joins Chicago Regional Planning Body The Wilmette Village board this week voted to take a membership in the Chicago Regional Planning asso- ciation, which includes in its member- ship municipalities and prominent in- dividuals in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties in Illinois, and Lake county in Indiana. Two Wilmette members of the organization are Myron H. West, prominent city planning expert, and J. G. Wray. The association has as its purpose the fostering of a general zoning plan for the Greater Chicago area, as well as a uniform beautification scheme for the territory. PARTY FOR FIREMEN Members of the Winnetka fire de- partment and their families were en- tertained at the home of Joseph Schmidt, 973 Willow road, last Sat- urday evening. Cards and other games marked the evening's entertainment and refreshments were served. About 30 guests attended the party and re- ported a delightful time. mediary.
