'WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 1925 WATER CARNIVAL ATTRACTS MANY Tom Robinson Puts Local Swimmers Through Stiff Paces at Bathing Beach A PLENTY OF THRILLS Winnetka Team Wins Inter- Village Relay Winnetka's fourth annual water carnival, held at the municipal beach last Sunday afternoon, drew one of the largest crowds ever to attend such an event in the village. The weather was ideal, being warm and sunny, and the water was warm with no sea run- ning. The inter-village relay race, one of the most exciting contests on the pro- gram of 24 events, was won by Win- netka, with Wilmette, last years' champions, second. The winning team consisted of Walter Bergau, Walter ig John Dewar and Richard Green- erg. Thé races and contests were held under the direction of Tom Robin- son, swimming coach at Northwestern university, who also demonstrated methods of resuscitation. An exhibi- tion of fancy diving was given by W. P. Heyn. HUGO ZAREMBA HEADS NORTHWESTERN CLUB The regular playing members of the Northwestern Public Links 'have formed the Northwestern Golf club with the election of the following of- ficers: Hugo Zaremba, of Wilmette, presi- dent; J. Robert McClure of Wilmette, vice-president; Frederick Tilt of Wil- mette, treasurer; R. J. Kingler, secre- tary. It was decided at the last regular meeting of the club that women who are not regular members of the club shall not enjoy playing privileges on Saturday afternoons, Sunday morn- ings and on holiday mornings. Several handicap tournaments are planned for the members for the re- mainder of the season including the handicap club championship, and a President's championship cup. These trophies will be played for during October. Harry M. Bachman of Wilmette is chairman of the Sports and Pastimes committee of the club. Wilmette Woman Addresses Kiddies' Radio Audiences Miss Clementine Eastman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, O. C. Eastman, 1027 Elmwood avenue, spoke over radio station WGN Monday evening dur- ing "Skeezix Hour" as a representa- tive of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college. Miss Eastman has made frequent ap- pearances as a narrator of children's tales at this station on the two nights reserved each week for representatives of the college. She is a teacher in the Winnetka kindergarten and last win- ter one of the regular treats of her pupils was that of listening to their own teacher's voice coming through the ether to tell them fascinating stories. Mondays and Saturdays at WGN are held for representatives of the Na- tional Kindergarten eellege. The pro- grams are made yp of stories, songs and other entertainment and continue from 5:30 to 6 o'clock, Alleged Speeder Booked for 50-Mile an Hour Pace Sherman Barnett, 684 Greenleaf avenue, Glencoe, was arrested early Thursday morning of this week by Motorcycle Policeman Albert Ottone, charged with speeding along Sheridan road at 50 miles an hcur. The police- man pursued Barnett from Winnetka avenue, the south boundary of the vil- lage, to Tower road, it was said. The case will be tried before Police Magis- trate Byron A. Nelson today. Valentine Smith of 531 Abbottsford road returned from Florida this week- end for a visit with his family, but will return south where his business duties have been demanding his attention for nifred Dewar, third; boys' plunge for several months.
