Elvira De Hidalgo is scheduled to assume the title role at this performance and Mario Chamlee will be the Ed- gardo. Mario Basiolo will be heard as Sir Henry and Virgilio Lazzari as Ray- mond. Others in the cast are Giordano Paltrinieri, Philine Falco and Louis Derman. Gennaro Papi will conduct. A goodly array of soloists will ap- pear at the regular concert on Monday night to be given by the Chicago Sym- phony orchestra these being Marie Sundelius, soprano: Merle Alcock, mezzo-soprano and Jacques Gordon, violinist. Mr. DeLaMarter has pre- pared a splendid orchestral program. All seats for these concerts are free. "Aida" Tuesday Night Mme. Rosa Raisa will again be heard in the title role of "Aida" on Tuesday night and opposite her will be Giovanni Martinelli, as Rhadames. This combination' of artists have on several occasions demonstrated beyond all question of a doubt that they are, the world's foremost interpreters of these Verdi roles, and with Giuseppe Danise as Amonasro, "Aida" as it is presented at Ravinia holds a place of prime mportance. Mme. Bourskava will be heard as Amneris, Mr. Rothier as Ramfis, Mr. D'Angelo as the King and Mr. Paltrinieri as the Messenger. Gennaro Papi will conduct. Wednesday night another of the fav- orite coloratura works is to be offered, this being "La Traviata" with Lucrezia Bori in the title role and Tito Schipa as Alfredo. There is no opera .more replete in human interest than this, and Mme. Bori and Mr. Schipa, whose command of romantic emotionalism is limitless, find themselves superbly situ- ated in the two leading roles. Mario Basiola will appear as Germont pere. Louis Gennaro Philine Falco, Anna Correnti, Derman and Carlo Coscia. Papi will conduct. At the children's concert Thursday afternoon, the first half of the program will be a specially arranged concert by the Chicago Symphony orchestra under the direction of Eric Del.aMarter. As a special feature the latter half of the afternoon will be devoted to the pre- sentation of a child artists' program with the following soloists: Edith Mezur, pianist; Mildred Waldman, pianist; Lawrence Hay, soprano and Samuel Thaviu, violinist. Children under 12 years of age are admitted free to these concerts. The reserved seats are free for everyone. "La Tosca" with its tensely drama- tic action and its ultra-brilliant score in which arias follow closely upon each other, is announced for Thursday night with Mme. Raisa in the title role, Giuseppe Danise as Scarpia and Mario Chamlee as Cavaradossi. There is no dramatic soprano part in which the combination of singing amd acting is more perfectly balanced than is that of Floria Tosca, and Mme. Raisa, who sings as well as she acts and acts as well as she sings, is admirably suited to its delineation. As Scarpia, the merciless chief of police, Giuseppe Dan- ise finds splendid opportunity to dis- play his voice, with its velvety rich- ness and its bel canto quality, which is so well adapted to the interpretation of the Puccini score. Mr. Danise characterizes this role in individual style, stressing the cold cruelty of Scarpia. Mr. Chamlee as Cavaradossi utilizes the brilliancy of his voice with splendid effect, employing the sweet lyric style when lyricism is in order and rising to tremendous heights of dramatic declamatory singing in the tense climaxes. Others in the cast are Louis D'Angelo, Giordano Paltrinieri, Paolo Ananian and Merle Alcock. Mr. Papi will conduct. "Lakme" will represent the colora- tura French school of operatic com- position on Friday night when this Delibes opus will be given with Elvira de Hidalgo in the title role and Tito Schipa as Gerald. This work, with its human interest story, which is revealed under the shadow of tragedy, makes broad appeal for its musical setting with a fine array of brilliant arias, is of the sort that is relished by opera patrons of all classes. Mme. Hidalgo has won many admirers by her delinea- tion of the name part with its out- standing area in the "Bell Song." Mr. Schipa as Gerald could not be better fitted with this role had Delibes had him in mind when he wrote his score. There is song after song of sweetly lyric quality and Mr. Schipa sings these with a graceful ease that serves to bring out every element of their appeal. The role also offers opportunity for ex- cellent acting which develops from the dash and go of the earlier scenes, through romance and into tragedy. A change in the cast will bring Virgilo Lazzari to the role of Nilakantha, a part which he has never sung at Ra- vinia but which offers him every chance for a display of that profondo singing for which he is famous on three con- tinents. Others in the cast are Merle Alcock, Margery Maxwell, Philine Falco, Virgilia Grassi and Giordano Paltrinieri. Louis Hasselmans will conduct.
