WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 22, 1925 a a PREDICTS BOOM FOR WEST AREA Rail Official Pictures Great Development in Wake of New Route HOME OWNERS' HAVEN Moran Describes Greater North Shore Engineers of the Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Electric rail- way, now engaged in constructing the Skokie valley route extending north- ward just west of the north shore vil- lages, are converting an ordinary pool of water into a beautiful lake--the same being Lake Charles near Mun- delein, Ill.--by cutting back the shore line to obtain the 5.000,000 cubic yards of "fill" required for the roadbed of the new right-of-way. Lake Charles, now a mere pool of water, will soon be a sizeable and at- tractive body of water when the rail workers get through with their job, John J. Moran, official of the com- pany, declared in a talk before the 'Wilmette Rotary club this week. Tak- ding material for roadbed "fill" from the shores of this body of water was found to be the most expedient procedure in view of the lack of adequate trans- portation facilities for bringing the material into the Skokie valley from sources far removed from the scene of the new construction. The engineers have constructed a temporary railroad to haul the earth from the lake so con- veniently located near the northern extremity of the new project. Sees Great Home Community Mr. Moran pictured the north shore of the future as one great community of the character of Wilmette. Trans- portation will open the way, he as- serted, sealing his remarks with data that described the remarkable develop- ment of Chicago following the exten- sions of the Rapid Transit company lines. The North Shore line anticipates this remarkable development for the north shore, which, obviously must come in the open territory immediately ad- jacent to the various lake shore vil- lages, Mr. Moran explained, in declar- ing that the company was going into the region as a pioneer to give good transportation service right from the start. Give the people good trans- portation and they will soon attend to the development of new territories, he added. The new route of the North Shore line is to be completed early next year, Mr. Moran said, one of the first big tests of its efficiency being the great Fucharistic conference of the Roman Catholic church to be held in 1926 at Mundelein, Ill, and which it is esti- mated will bring a million and a half visitors to Chicago and the north shore. Road to Opportunity Development of the territory west of the north shore will put every local business man on his mettle, Mr. Moran said in concluding his talk, because it points the way to new business oppor- tunities for the progressive merchants in this vicinity. Mr. Moran lives at 924 Greenleaf avenue and is an active leader in the Wilmette Chamber of Commerce. He was chairman of the recent Wilmette Day speakers' program in conjunction with the turning on of the new light- ing system, R.
