This was the statement this week of Dr. John Timothy Stone, pastor of the Fourth Presbyterian church, Chicago, who has just recently returned from a world tour, during which he spent con- siderable time in the Near East. "American philanthropy," he said, "having begun the work of reconstruc- tion among the refugees and orphans of tha Bible lands through the Near East Relief, must finish the job, or else witness the destruction of what has al- ready been accomplished." "In the work which the Near East Relief is accomplishing wherever the refugees of the Near East are seen," he continued, "confined as it is to children and young people, that organization is insuring the future of their self- support; restoring to their varied na- tures that element of manhood and womanhood which insures life. "Everywhere these children under the protection of the Near East Relief are industrious, responsive and capable. Their .influence is felt upon their par- ents and relatives, and the refugee colonies show the same thrift, enter- prise and diligence. "It will not be necessary to continue this work for very many more years, but just now we have an obligation to less fortunate nations, it seems to me, and the good will of the United States can in no way be regained and strengthened better than by this wise and far reaching expenditure." New Trier Girls Club Entertains New Pupils Wednesday afternoon New Trier high school was the scene of an at- tractive bridge and bunco party given by the social committee and the friend- ly committee of the Girls' club for the girls of the upper classes who are en- rolled at New Trier this year for the first time. Prizes were given for the card games and refreshments were served for this affair which was plan- ned to give new girls the opportunity of becoming acquainted with the rest of their schoolmates. Elizabeth Bab- cock is chairman of the friendly com- mittee, and Helen Fraser heads the social committee of the club. RIDING CLUB OPENS The Spur and Saddle club has start- ed upon its new season with an in- creasing membership list 'that in- cludes Evanston and Wilmette mem- bers.
