28 WINNETKA TALK October 24, 1925 Cheer Leaders Share Spotlight in Tulane Grid Fight Saturday Football fans who attend the North- western-Tulane game at Stagg field Saturday afternoon will get a glimpse of something new in the way of foot- ball cheering when Tulane's two co-ed cheer leaders exhort the crowds into action. The two girls are said to be the only co-ed cheer leaders in the United States and won their position over men competitors by their unusual ability. Miss Marian Draper, head- cheer-leader, is a former Ziegfield Follies girl but deserted the footlights to resume her studies at Tulane. She is said to put more pep into her antics on the field than any other cheer leader in the country and pro- mises to give Chicago grid fans an honest-to-goodness treat. The "Sweetest Girl in Dixie," is what Tulane undergrads call "Liz" Heaslip, the other girl cheer-leader. She is a sophomore and has displayed unusual ability in getting action out of the stands. She will be at Stagg field Saturday pulling strong for "The Green Wave." Three hundred Tulane rooters ar- rived in Chicago Friday morning at 8 o'clock on a special train. They proceeded immediately to the Cooper- Carlton hotel, where the headquarters of the southern hosts will be made during their sojourn in Chicago. The team will be accompanied by three sport writers from New Orleans papers.
