Go back for a moment to the Yesterday of History--to that primeval tract of forest, sandy ridges and swamps--where a group of settlers lived happily, contentedly in log cabins--where life was closely intermingled with that of seafaring on the broad waters of Lake Michigan. And there in that same Yesterday Evanston was founded--founded on three great pil- lars, its homes, churches and schools -- to stand forth as an example of Progress . . . all within the brief span of time since Yes- terday. Today Evanston stands as the "Athens of the Northwest"--a city beautiful and com- plete--a city of churches--a city sponsoring a great educational system. Its achieve- always intent on --Goethe ment is marked by such milestones as Northwestern University, Garrett Biblical Institute and the New Evanston Township High School. Quite as phenomenal as the Progress of Evanston is the Growth of Chandler's. Once a small candy shop, now the largest store of its kind on the North Shore is the story in a few words of this store's rapid progressiveness. Such success is, indeed, worthy of commemoration and all during next week we are going to celebrate our Thirtieth Anniversary. The store, amid attractive Christmas displays, will be open every evening, so that we can welcome back old friends and make new ones. Come in and congratulate us.
