30 WINNETKA TALK November 21, 1925 NEW TRIER BOYS TO ATTEND "Y" SESSION Illinois Older Boys Conference to be Held at Champaign Next Week-End Ten boys from New Trier High school will attend the Illinois Older Boy:' conference, held under the aus- pices of the State Association of the Young Men's Christian Association of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana next week-end. The conference extends from Friday, November 27, until Sun- day evening. The party will be in charge of Fred Schmidt and it is possible that Principal Frederick E. Clerk may also attend. The purpose of the conference is to bring together for inspiration, in- struction and information, "long- trousered" boys fifteen to twenty years of age, capable of Christian leadership. The conference stimulates sturdy Christian living in every day situations in a boy's life. An adult leader will accompany each group of seven boys. Select Delegates With Care Delegates to this conference are being selected with great care as they should be boys who can get the most out of it. Quotas have been assigned to all Y. M. C. A's in the state on the basis of membership and represen- tation in past conferences. The cities of Champaign-Urbana are easily accessible via the Illinois Central R. R,, the Big Four (C. C. C. and St. L.) and the Illinois Traction System Lines. These railroads will grant the regular conference rates of 112 fares for the round trip on the Identification Certificate Plan. Also hard roads lead into the two cities from several directions. The general program includes many splendid speeches by well known speakers and authorities on boy prob- lems. WINNETKA, ILL. 72-14-16 Elm Street Tim Lowry Is Best Center He Ever Saw, Says Purple Mentor "The best center I ever saw" was the way Coach Glenn Thistlethwaite sum- med up his opinion of Captain Tim Lowry as the big blond player trotted off the field at the close of the con- test with Purdue last Saturday in which he played his last conference game for the Purple. "In all my years as a player and coach I never had a player or saw one who was more dependable than Lowry. His ability to diagnose what the opposition is going to do is un- canny. Time after time Lowry guessed the play and either charged through or dropped back for a pass as the oc- casion demanded. "Too much credit can not be given to Lowry for what success we had this season. He was master of the situa- tion at all times. I think it will be a long time before the game will ever see a center who stands out so prom- inently as he did during his three years of conference play." . An indication of his ability at antic- ipating the next move of his opponents cepted six passes during the season. This is unusual for a lineman, who ordinarily is blocked out of the play or is busy charging the line. Lowry, however, has a knack of fore-telling when a pass is coming and drops back into position to catch the oval. On the campus Lowry is the idol of his classmates as they view the most successful season the team has had since 1916. His fighting qualities have won the admiration of all, and all know him as "Fighting Tim." The Dorcas society will meet Tues- day evening, November 24, at the home of Mrs. A. Paulsen, 902 Ash street. Miss B. Jensen will assist the hostess.
