8 WINNETKA TALK November 28, 1925 "MIRACLES AND LAW" MEN'S CLASS TOPIC Sunday Morning Class Continues Discussion of Fosdick's Famous Volume At the Men's Sunday Morning class last Sunday there was one of the most lively and earnest sessions ever held, with quite the largest attendance so far this year. Harry Emerson Fosdick's chapter on "Miracles and Law" in his recent book, "The Modern Use of the Bible," was the subject in hand. This popular preacher's understanding of and sym- pathy with the problems of the modern man he states as follows: "We are desperately trying to believe in events 2000 years ago, the like of which we no longer expect in our experience nor regard as reasonable in our world. We are trying to pro- ject our minds back over a date when God changed his method of running the world, into a previous age when things were done that no longer have any part in our reliance or our ex- pectation. The result is deadly un- reality in our thought of miracle." His devout and reverent attitude is expressed when he says: "A miracle is God's use of his own law-abiding power to work out in ways surprising to us his will for our lives and for the world. Unless the whole Chris- tian gospel is false, miracles in that sense are happening all the time. If I had not experienced and seen them I should not be a Christian at all." A dozen different men participated in the spontaneous discussion, men who manage estates, sell securities, advertising or merchandise, practice law or manufacture, Winnetkans we pass on the street or ride with on the trains. The discussed these things with utmost candor, without restraint and without cant. Any man in the village, even of the most practical turn, who ever thinks about God and the way in which he works in the world today would find interest and very likely real help in this discussion by his neighbors, it is felt. Tomorrow the discussion of the same chapter is to be continued. All men are welcome. The class meets in the American Legion room of Com- munity House every Sunday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Miss Marion Fulton. who is attend- ing Syracuse university, is spending her Thanksgiving recess with her roommate in New York City. ---- Mr. and Mrs. R. Floyd Clinch are expected to return to their home in Hubbard Woods early next week from a short stay in New York. Crosley Radio Better--Cost Less | Hear it at The Radio | Service Shop C. H.
