We admit it is a fool- ish question to ask, but at the same time you would be surprised to know the number of people who are going miles out of their way to do their banking when there is a bank right here in their com- munity. Daily 952 Linden Avenue - Hubbard Woods Trust & Savings Bank } Hubbard Woods British Americans Feast in Memory of Robert Burns, Poet The sixth annual Burns dinner given by the North Shore British American club, took place Tuesday night, Jan- vary 25, in Community House. The haggis, a true Scotch dish, was pre- pared as usual by Mrs. George Bisset. Aside from the haggis, without which no Scotch meal would be complete, scones, oat cakes, short bread, and fruit cakes were served. A few Amer- ican dishes completed the menu. Andrew P. Canning of 889 Sheridan road addressed the members and guests following the dinner. His subject was, "Robert Burns." Included among the visitors were Richard P. Miller of Evanston, Mrs. McPherson, president of the Lake Forest British American club, and the Rev. Thomas A. Goodwin, all of whom gave short addresses. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, members of the local club entertained with songs, and James Gunn of Highland Park also gave vocal numbers. Mrs. P. McDonald and J. Sutherland, both of Winnetka, gave several readings. Dancing followed the dinner and regular program. The next regular meeting of the club is announced for Monday, February 10, when the card and business meet- ing will be held. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shaw, 994 Spruce street, entertained a few guests at bridge on last Saturday evening, January 22. Handy Andy Says: If you want to get a good laugh on Ole King Coal just show him that he is not the only giver of heat. Every coal strike has taught us and brought us ways of getting more convenient heat at actual savings on our coal bills. This time we have radiating heaters which use either gas or electricity, and there are oil heaters too. And any one of the three may be moved from room to room. Some may be used in the fireplace. Best way to do is to find out just what is the most economical for your particular home conditions. And the best way to do that is to see the heating man at the ECKART Hardware Co. 735 Elm St., Winnetka Phone Winn 843-44 SCHOOL FOR BLIND GAINS WIDE RENOWN (Continued from page 3) phers, lawyers, ministers, shop-keepers, news venders, farmers, musicians, pia- no tuners, a man who makes his living singing in the streets, salesmen, and a large number of people not engaged in any form of gainful occupation, but who hope through our training to turn it to profitable use. There is of course a great bulk of unemployable blind, peo- ple definitely incapable of performing any work of economic worth. But their lives can be and are being made bright- er and happier through the opportunity made available to them by the Hadley Correspondence School for the Blind. This work would not be possible were it not for the splendid encourage- ment given by the people of Winnetka. They alone are responsible for its de- velopment and furtherance; and it is one more reason for that civic pride which is justly the possession of Win- netka. Young Women's Groups Plan Basketball Game The Friendship Circle will hold its regular meeting Tuesday night, Feb- ruary 1, at Community House. After an hour of gym and basketball, the business and social meeting will be held in the Neighborhood room. It is hoped that a basketball game can be arranged between the Business Girls' club and the Friendship Circle group later in the season when the two organizations have had opportunity for more practice.
