14 WINNETKA TALK January 29, 1927 Smith's Delicatessen 819 Oak Street is an old Winnetka Institution that has supplied bakery goods of quality to a loyal follow- ing for a long time. Delicacies, and fresh poultry have also been features of their service. But the most progressive step was taken, when in addition to their other services, they opened their own Ice Cream Kitchen. In the recent Notre Dame meet he won the mile and ran as mile relay team. Ely is a runner, specializing in the two mile. Reynolds obtained his Trier where he was one of the leading track men in the suburban league. Since competing for Northwestern he has turned in a num- ber of commendable performances and has been a member of the Purple re- lay teams of the last few years. Last fall he ran on the cross country team which won victories over Notre Dame, Indiana and Chicago. Ely at- tended Lake Forest academy before coming to Northwestern. This is his last year with the Purple also. Judson Thompson Swims on Michigan Frosh Tank Team Judson Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. H. Thompson of 811 Ash- land avenue, Wilmette, who is a fresh- man at the University of Michigan, has been named a member of the freshman swimming team. Aside from making swimming re- cords "Jud" is also chairman of the Freshman cap-burning committee, and is a member of Beta Theta Pi, initia- tion having taken place Wednesday, January 26. Ickes of 900 South Private road, and Mrs. Benjamin F. Lang- worthy of 832 Bryant avenue, both of Winnetka were seated at the speakers' table in places of honor. President Coolidge sent a letter to Miss Addams praising her work, and honoring her for the great good she has stood for and accomplished. The gathering was considered one of the most cosmopolitan ever assembled to pay homage to one person, for many nationalities, politicians, professional men, and people representing all re- ligions were present for one fine pur- pose, that of honoring Miss Addams, the founder of Hull House. Mr. and Mrs. Merriman of Reading, Pa., formerly of Winnetka, are the guests for a few days of Mrs. Mer- riam's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Aspenwall, 1195 Tower road, on their way to spend a fortnight at Hot Springs, Ark. Mrs. Aspenwall was hostess ons Thursday to a few friends for luncheon and bridge in honor of Mrs. Merriman.
