February 5, 1927 WINNETKA TALK P.T.A. News The unexpected announcement has been made that the Parent-Teacher as- sociation of the Horace Mann school will hold a large meeting, each room holding a room meeting, followed by a general gathering with the exception of the Kindergarten, Monday after- noon, February 7, at 3:30 o'clock. At this time the teachers and parents will discuss goal cards and the bazaar be- ing planned by the school. Tea will be served the groups at 4:30 o'clock. In view of the proposed bazaar, Mon- day and Wednesday afternoons, until the day of the bazaar, will be reserved for mothers to go to the Horace Mann school, and work with their children in preparation for the event. In addition to these many plans, the interesting announcement is made that Wednesday evenings will be devoted to fathers and sons, when they can go to the Skokie school and help with the work the boys are doing toward the bazaar. Mrs. Warren W. Shoemaker of 45 Green Bay road, Glencoe, had charge of the general meeting of the Hubbard Woods Parent - Teacher association held Tuesday, February 1, at the Hub- bard Woods school which was attended by more than 300 parents. Mr. Logan, principal of the Skokie school, spoke on his "First Impressions of the Win- netka Public Schools." Following this enlightening address, Carleton W. Washburne, principal of the Winnet- ka Public schools, told the history of the Winnetka school system and how he came to be called to Winnetka. Miss Marian Carswell, principal of the Hubbard Woods school has re- turned after a week's visit at the Nor- mal school, Greeley, Col, where she gave a week's course to rural teach- ers. Announcement is made by Mrs. Frederick Thomas, that the percent- ages of membership of parents in the association are, Hubbard Woods, 82%, Horace Mann, 57%, Skokie, 61%, and Greeley, 62%. Formal Sale of Village Tract Meets With Delay There was not a three-fourths vote of the Village Council present at the meeting Tuesday evening, and, as a result, formal approval of the sale of the vacant piece of ground, 46 by 25 feet, on Chestnut court in the rear of the Henry Luensman property, 804 Elm street, had to be deferred until the next meeting of the council. Bids on this property were taken by the council at a previous session, the bid of Mr. Luensman, $2,200, being the only one received. At the Tuesday evening session, R. H. Schell, chair- man of the public buildings and grounds committee, to whom the bid of Mr. LLuensman was referred, recom- mended that it be accepted. Frederick Dickinson, village attor- ney was instructed to draw the deed with provisions relative to compliance with building regulations in this por- tion of the village. MRS.
