One of the big social and economic | questions of all time, that recently has grown more important, is place in the home? In olden times people rather inclined to think that women belonged nowhere but on their own hearth, and, | consequently, they were expected to do all the domestic labor. In more recent years, however, the views of the populace as a whole have broadened, and now there is a doubt as to just where the so-called weaker sex does belong. And it is one of the questions on which the play "Erstwhile Susan" is built. This comedy, written by Marian De Forrest, is to be produced on Feb- "Is woman's " were ruary 19 by the New Trier High school | « Dramatic club. The play is the story of a struggle between two opposing parties, namely Erstwhile Susan, who is a well-born, educated person believing in women's freedom, and a group of narrow Penn- sylvania Dutch people, who stick to the old-fashioned ideas of living. Both sides hold strongly to their opinions, and it is only after a definite battle that Erstwhile Susan triumphs, and wins | lecting if you will, a | "State Queens" Get Into Limelight Down in Miami Way down in the sunny South, where Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schroeder are doing their best to take on a coat of tan and collect sand in their shoes from the Miami beaches, they take pictures of both bathing beauties and society girls for the movies. One of the movie men decided that it was time to get the pictures of the "all state queens," who have also done their best to collect a "coat of sunny south," and as long as he confined his endeavors to "queens" wearing evening clothes, all was "K.O." But Mr. Movieman decided that "bathing queens" were as important on the screen as "evening queens" and forth- with began to promote such a scene. He reckoned, however, without tak- ing into consideration the opinion of "Mrs. Alabama Society Chairman" and "Mrs. Paul Wilmette Illinois" who contributed the idea that it was not "so good." Hence when the film ap- pears on the screen it will show the state queens" in evening dress, col- "coat of sunny south" and sand in their shoes. The Chicago and Evanston alum- nae chapters, in co-operation with Tau chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Northwestern university, held a joint founders' day luncheon on the occa- sion of the fifty-seventh anniversary of the founding of the sorority, at the Union League club, Saturday, January freedom for the labor-worn women of {29 the Pennsylvania town. Many minds have pondered long on this question of women's place and women's rights. It is still more or less an unsettled question, and a great deal of light is needed on the subject. Per- haps "Erstwhile Susan" can furnish a bit of that light. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton Adams of Evanston, formerly of Wilmette, sailed last Friday, January 27, on the Ma- jestic for a two months' trip in Eu- rope. Mrs. Adams is a sister of Mrs. G.
