aman ----"---- February 12, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 17 HEAR JANE ADDAMS Leader of Hull House on North Shore February 13; Dasch Quartet in Hour's Program The Wilmette Sunday Evening club will have one of its best programs of the year Sunday night, February 13. Miss Jane Addams will speak on "Im- pressions of Mexico and the Present Situation," a particularly timely topic. The Philharmonic String quartet, now known as "The George Dasch Quar- tet," will render nearly an hour's program. A great banquet was recently given in honor of Miss Addams at the Furni- ture Mart by Chicago's civic leaders. In spite of the size of the banquet hall, is was impossible to accept all the reservations that were made by those who wished to honor Miss Addams. Miss Addams is known throughout the world for the wonderful work that she -had accomplished at Hull House, Chi- cago, which was opened in 1889. She was president of the National Conference of Charities and Correction in 1909, later she was chairman of the International Committee of Women for Permanent Peace, and president of the International Congress of Women in 1919. Miss Addams is the author of the following books: "Democracy and Social Ethics," "Newer Ideals of Peace," "The Spirit of Youth and the City Streets," "20 years at Hull House," "A New Conscience and an Ancient Evil," "The Long Road of Women's Memory," and "Peace and Bread in Time of War." Miss Addams has traveled in many parts of the world and has studied con- ditions in many lands. Her address on Mexico will be of wide interest. Club Clowns Will Lead Grand March at Triangle Dance The "Triangle Club Clowns" are scheduled by the club to lead the grand march which will take place as a pleasant intermission in the mas- querade dance being given tonight in the Community House, in celebration of Lincoln's birthday. The march will take place promptly at 10:45 o'clock. Prizes are to he awarded for the most attractive and original costumes. There will be three prizes for the men, and three for the women, and they all will be "pieces of gold." The judges chosen to select the winners are Mr. and Mrs. John H. Dethloff, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Voltz and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lucchessi. The same dance committee will be in charge of the affair that took charge of the balloon dance. PHYLLIS BARRY PLAYS Phyllis Eileene Barry, of 211 Maple Hill road, Glencoe, recently appeared in a concert at the Ellis Island audi- torium, New York City. Miss Barry was one of a Russian trio, under the auspices of the United States govern- ment. She will also appear at Chicker- ing hall, Monday, April 18, before the New York Madrigal club, in a recital with Marguerite Potter, president and founder of the Madrigal. CLUB BIRTHDAY TUESDAY The annual birthday luncheon of The Neighbors will be given Tuesday, Feb- ruary 15, at the Kenilworth club, with a program dovoted to "Reminiscences." The members of the club will gather at this time in celebration of the thirty- second anniversary of their organiza- | tion. ALLEN DIES The death of Mrs. Alice Bingham Allen, 91 years of age, widow of Eli- sha Morgan and mother of E. Hubert Allen of 1405 Edgewood lane, Hubbard Woods, occured on Friday, February 4, in Evanston. A private service was held in Chicago, with burial at Han- over, Conn., the place of her birth.
