Chandra Sena Gooneratne, the well known Hindu lecturer, was the assem- bly speaker at the National Kinder- garten and Elementary college Thurs- day. The program for the afternoon included readings from Rabindranath Tagore, poet, philosopher, social re- former, educator and internationalist. Mrs. Fred A. Cuscaden, Mrs. Wil- liam Sutherland, Mrs. N. Landon Hoyt and Mrs. P. W. Bradstreet of the governing board of the college, acted as hostesses at the tea which was served in the Alumnae club room at the close of the lecture. Lena McCauley Speaker as Art Exhibit Opens Miss Lena M. McCauley, Evanston art authority, introduced as "one of the oldest friends of the league," was a speaker at the dinner given last Thurs- day evening at the Community House, Winnetka, formally opening the art ex- hibit of the North Shore Art league. This display will be continued there for two weeks following the opening date. The North Shore and Evanston public is invited to view it there. Charles W. Hawthorne of Province- town was the principal speaker at the dinner of Thursday. James Cady El- well, the league president, Rudolph In- gerle, artist and first president of the organization, E. L. Nygaard, superin- tendent of Kenilworth schools were among other speakers. The Babcock string quartet of Evanston provided the music. The Skokie Valley chapter of the D. A. R. held a meeting at the home of Mrs. Bentley G. McCloud, 338 Ken- ilworth avenue, Kenilworth on Mon- day afternoon. Children View Health Movies; Hear Lectures Through the activity of Miss Kath- arine Griffin, the nurse in charge of the Gross Point Health Center, which is affiliated with the Chicago Tubercu- losis Institute, an interesting health program was carried out in Wilmette schools on Monday, April 25. Lowell Todd, principal of the How- ard school, gave the use of the spa- cious school auditorium for the show- ing of motion pictures on health sub- jects by Mrs. Hattie Palmer of the Chicago Tuberculosis Institute. The pictures were seen by the pupils of five different schools: Howard, St. Jo- seph's, District No. 40, District No. 37, and Laurel. Dr. W. A. Murray, Ev- anston dentist, gave a talk on dental hygiene, urging daily care of the teeth, and emphasizing the importance of eating proper foods, discouraging the eating of candy, especially between meals. The same health films were shown at the St. Francis Xavier school, where Dr. Earle F. Bommerschein spoke on dental hygiene. Miss Marion L. Campbell Opens Stenography Office Miss Marion I. Campbell, until re- cently associated with the F. J. Bud- inger and company insurance office, is establishing a public stenographer's of- fice in the Cox building, Wilmette and Central avenues. Miss Campbell is a resident of Wilmette, has had a thorough and extended experience in the general stenography field and is prepared to render complete service along that line.
