HOLD BENEFIT The Chicago Assembly of the Catho- lic Daughters of America, held its regular meeting Sunday afternoon at the Great Northern hotel in the rose room, with Miss Anne McCarthy, president, presiding. Members of New- man court served as hostesses for the day and arranged a benefit card and bunco party for one of the courts of the assembly that has recently suf- fered financial reverses. Miss Mary Jans, past president of the Chicago Assembly, was general chairman. Mrs. W. Frank McClure and her daughter, Catherine, who have been in Colorado Springs most of the winter, are expected to arrive at the Orring- ton hotel May 15. -- Mrs. Albert Ullrich, 925 Lake ave- nue, entertained the Music Study club of Evanston at luncheon Monday. Ave., Evanston Green. 1319 President of Cuba Pays North Shore a Hurry-Up Visit Gen. Gerardo Machado y Morales, President of Cuba, who was Chicago's sight-seer and Vice-President Charles G. Dawes' personal guest early this week, terminated a tour of the high- ways through this section of Cook county, in Wilmette Tuesday morning. At Fourth street and Linden avenue he boarded a specia! train, decorated in the National colors, and in charge of officials of the road, for a trip to Swift and company's plant at the stockyards. Major William H. Shutau, of Presi- dent Machado's party, is a brother of Mrs. William Paley, 623 Central ave- nue, Wilmette, and was a guest at the Paley home. The President's special train out of Wilmette was in charge of Vice-Presi- dent Bernard Fallon; his assistant, M. J. Feron and Roy Thompson, traffic manager. Other members of the President's party who did not accom- pany him on his motor trip north, boarded the North Shore line special upon its arrival in the loop. Phone University 9300 1723 Benson Avenue The Church St. Electric Station Is Opposite. the North Shore" Absolute protection from IN HIGHLAND PARK At 374 Central Ave. BIGGEST TAX RETURN Township Collector Sanborn Hale Awaits Report Indicating Local Distribution of Taxes Sanborn Hale, New Trier township tax collector, declared that he had not, up to noon Wednesday of this week, received the statement from the coun- ty treasurer showing the distribution of the township tax money, and is waiting only for this statement to get the money into the hands of the vari- ous local taxing bodies. This, he stated, he was able to do last year on May 4, and feels there cannot now be but a few more days' delay in the receipt of the statement from the county treasurer. Mr. Hale was the first township col- lector in the county to return his book to the county treasurer. He collected a total of $1,101,744.33, which is the largest collection ever made in New Trier township, exceeding his record for both 1925 and 1926 and placing his average collection for each of the three years at more than a million dollars. Collector Hale has always paid the taxing bodies immediately upon receipt of the order from the county treasurer showing the amount to go to each, and will be equally prompt this year, he says. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Keith of Kenil- worth announce the engagement of their daughter, Margaret, to Hughston McBain, son of Mrs. W. Fred McBain of Evanston.
