WINNETKA TALK 17 June 11, 1927 mm NORTH SHORE SCOUTS ENROLL FOR CHECAGUA Prepare to Spend Period From June 27 to July 9 at Owasippe Near Muskegon One hundred Scouts and Scoutmas- ters from the north shore Scout troops are looking .forward to spend- ing the period from June 27 to July 9 at Camp Checagua, near Muskegon, Mich., one of the Owasippe camps. This camp is one of the best equipped and most carefully managed camps in the entire Middle West. The camp staff includes specialists in almost every field. There will be a man in charge of nature study work, a real live Indian, a handicraft spe- cialist, and many other interesting leaders of various phases of Scout work. These are in addition to the leader in charge of each tent group of eight boys. Whenever possible this leader is the Scoutmaster who goes to camp with his boys. Scouts Registered Last Week Applications for camp were filed last week by the following Scouts: Wilmette--Troop 4: Paul Sterner; Troop 5: Frank Church, Colin Finlay- son, Edward Bristol, Fredric Robin- son; Troop 9: John Miller, Adam Bauer, James Hoffman, Herman Rau. Glencoe--Troop 23: Garl Lincoln; Troop 22: John DeBeers, Cameron Brown, Burton French, Samuel Smale; Troop 21: John Fisher. Highland Park--Troop 31: Morton Traub; Troop 32: Harry Carlson, Bob Phelps, Ernest West; Troop 33: Parker Johnston, Robert Johnston, Nicholas Wink; Troop 36: Thomas Brennan. Lake Bluff--Troop 42: Neils Neil- son, Clyde Deyo. Lake Forest--Troop 45: Ian Mec- Pherson, Brent Wrenn. Registrations Added Daily More boys are enrolling daily. In many cases one or more tents at Che- cagua will be given over to the boys from a single local troop. Eight boys occupy a tent, and when possible they are grouped in their natural patrols and troops. Invite Local Residents to Glenwood Exhibition Local citizens who contribute to the financial upkeep of Glenwood Manual Training school will be interested in the announcement of and cordial invi- tation to the 31st Annual Military Drill and Flag Day exercises of the school, which is Chicago's largest charity, caring for Illinois boys from needy, broken homes, to be held Sat- urday afternoon, June 11, at 2 o'clock on the school campus at Glenwood, 111. The exhibition drill by cadet com- panies will be received by officers of the R. O. T. C. and I. N. G., following which a prize flag will be presented to the winning company. A feature of this year's event will be the dedication of a memorial gate- way at the main entrance of the school grounds, presented by ward B. Butler, president of the school for the past 31 years, in appre- ciation of his long period of service. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Thoms of 863 Lincoln avenue expect their daughter, Lorraine, home from the University of Wisconsin Thursday. She is a junior at the university. On July 3, Mr. and Mrs. Thoms, with Lorraine, Eugene, and James Stuart of Madison, will] leave for a tour of Yellowstone Park. They expect to be gone about three weeks.
