El WINNETKA TALK June 11, 1927 ee e-------------------------------------------- Teatro del Sheridan Road in "No Man's Land" Between Wilmette and Kenilworth Ph. Kenilworth 3980-3981 MATINEES SATURDAY, SUNDAY SATURDAY % SUNDAY Doors Open 1:30 Show Starts 2 p. m., Continuous Evenings During Week Doors Open 6:30 Show Starts 7 p. m. FOR WEEK BEGINNING SATURDAY, JUNE 11 Saturday, June 11 "SILVER COMES THROUGH" with Fred Thompson "Crazy to Aect", Sennett Comedy "Hard Cider" Aesop's Comedy "Flirting With Death" Skiing Special Corinne Griffith in "Three Hours" at Norshore From riches to rags is the evolution through which beautiful Corinne Grif- fith as an outcast wife, passes in her new picture, "Three Hours," which comes to the Norshore theater Sunday. Her role is that of a society matron who is the victim of circumstantial evidence and the wrath of an insanely jealous husband. This is the sort of story you enjoy more if you have not been told too much of the plot, so 1t will be enough to say that it begins on a foggy afternoon when Corinne Griffith, begging for funds, meets John Bowers. After she has been given a sum of money, she steals his wallet. The story sets forth her adventure during the following three hours, the ending of which is truly remarkable and far from the beaten path of the usual photoplay. Add to this a stage show that sizzles with speed and di- versity and you have a program cer- tain to satisfy and please the most dis- criminating. THE VARSITY Max Reem, noted Danish creator, who designed the costumes worn by Greta Garbo in Ibanez' "Torrent," de- signed the gowns worn by Lillian Gish in "The Scarlet Letter," which will come soon to the Varsity. "The Beloved Rogue" with John Barrymore comes to the Varsity Mon- day. Wednesday the showing will be "Tip-Toes, the film version of the Broadway musical play, with Dorothy Gish, Will Rogers and Nelson Keys the principal fun makers. Friday will bring Raymond Griffith in "Wedding Bill$," also 'a Rin-Tin-Tin feature, "Tracked by the Police." Francis Neir of 201 Ninth street re- turned Sunday from Brown university. Sparkling Week's Program Scheduled by Village Theatre "Land Beyond the Law" A phase of history in the great col- onization of the West thus far neg- lected by motion pictures is a vital part of "The Land Beyond the Law," the new First National Western pro- duction starring Ken Maynard which will be presented at the Village Theater Monday and Tuesday. While fiction and screen have shown the trials and tribulations of covered wagon caravans | as being due principally to Indians, lack of water, shortage of food, no picture thus far has shown one of the bitterest enemies of settlers in the early days, who caused most of the trouble for those desiring to establish homes in new territory. "The Land Beyond the Law" shows how gunmen and cattle rustlers, headed by a dishonest cattle baron, were brought to terms when the United States government took a hand. "Frisco Sally Levy" "Frisco Sally Levy," a sparkling comedy romance of Irish-Jewish life with Sally O'Neil and Roy D'Arcy, comes Tuesday and Wednesday. Wil- liam Beaudine, who directed Mary Pickford in "Little Annie Rooney," di- rected this new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer screen hit, in which Sally O'Neil plays the part of a hoydenish and impudent girl courted by two lovers. Roy D'Arcy is the Jewish lover and Charles Dela- ney the Irish suitor. Tenen Holtz con- tributes a distinguished bit of charac- ter acting to this film as Sally's father, and Kate Price as her mother does equally good work. The story is rich in humor, pathos and heart interest, being so profoundly true to life as to hold the attention from the first reel to the last. "The Fire Brigade" Not since Charles Ray played in "The Girl I Loved" has he had a part that approached in dramatic sincerity that of Terry O'Neill in "The Fire Brig- ade," the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer pro- duction which is to be seen at the Vil- lage theatre on Friday and Saturday. During the last year Ray has become identified with whimsical comedy roles such as the ones he played in "Bright Lights," "The Auction Block," and "Paris," and has shown a delightful versatility of characterization in these parts. However, Terry O'Neill is a part that would delight the heart of any actor, and one that afforded Ray opportuni- ties he had never before been granted. The story covers a considerable period, taking Terry through the "rookie" stage to that of a fire engineer, showing the suspense that attends a fireman, and his everyday heroism. The role, which inclines to the dramatic, is balanced by a wealth of typical Charles Ray com- edy. May McAvoy has the feminine lead opposite Ray, and the cast includes Holmes Herbert, Tom O'Brien, Euge- nie Besserer, Warner P. Richmond, Bert Woodruff, Vivia Ogden, De Witt Jennings, Dan Mason, James Brad- bury, Jr., Erwin Connelly and others. TEATRO DEL LAGO Saturday, June 11, "Silver Comes Through."
