Winnetka | S---- Py a I a ee I ee London Educator Visits Kindergarten College Miss Kate Stevens of London, seven- ty years of age and an outstanding figure in the educational life of Eng- land, was a visitor at the National Kindergarten and Elementary college last week on her way to Australia. Miss Stevens, who recently retired af- ter forty-two years of service as teach- er and headmistress in London schools, has always been interested in the edu- cational systems of other countries, and has made several trips around the world, visiting schools and attending educational conferences in every part of the globe. In 1911 while attending the National Education association in San Francisco she was elected an honorary member of that organization--the first woman to be so honored. In speaking to the students of the colleges, Miss Stevens made many in- teresting comparisons between the present educational system and that of forty or forty-five years ago. She sug- gested, however, that although there have been many changes and improve- ments in method, curriculum and equipment, there is at least one subject which is quite as important today as it was forty years ago--wise training in character education. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. M. Miller, 936 Elm street, will leave July 5 for a trip through the East. They will go to De- troit, Buffalo, Rochester, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and the Thousand Islands. aE ee EE a a aS B.
