Veterinary service is given the ani- mals in need of it, and when they are too ill to enjoy life they are merci- fully put out of misery. The cost of maintaining the service, the food, the shelter, the caretaker and other work in this connection, must be met by the generosity of friends of animals, and it is the hope of the workers that the membership may be largely increased with the coming weeks. City Officials Co-operate The co-operation of city officials from the mayor down is a matter of considerable satisfaction to the society workers. Frederick Arnd is president of the Humane society. Others who are energetic in its interests include Miss Marion Bremond, Mrs. W. S. Powers, Mrs. Arnd, Mrs. Edward M. Skinner, Alfred Eustace, Mrs. Louis Beardsley, Mrs. Willis Brightmire, Miss Maude Merriam, Miss Lydia Pearl Coe. John Hahn is treasurer of the organization. Pasadena is sending us a number of interesting visitors, among whom is Mrs. Stoughton, sister of Mrs. Frank Cheeseman, formerly of Kenilworth but now living at the Orrington. Mrs. Eastman's sister, Mrs. Walker from Pasadena, is with her, and Mrs. East- man hopes to persuade her to remain for the summer.
